President Donald Trump said many words during his hour and 20 minute long State of the Union address Tuesday evening, but he did not mention women once.
Trumps first year in office was a landmark year for women, as the #MeToo and Times Up movements shaped political and popular culture. Multiple elected and appointed officials were forced to resign after admitting to sexual harassment and assault, and more women than ever will run for office in 2018.
The president, meanwhile, made several attempts to limit access to reproductive care, refused to call himself a feminist and was accused of cheating on his wife with adult film star Stephanie Gregory Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels. Trump's annual average approval rating for his first year in office was only 33 percent among women, compared with 45 percent among men.
But its not just Trump: Republicans also have a female problem.
According to recent polling, women favor Democrats over Republicans in the November midterm elections by 16 points, while men support both parties at parity. Such data indicates that Trump "is not likely to be much help in rallying women to support Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections," said Gallup's Megan Brenan.
Ignoring womens issues during the most important policy-shaping speech of the year doesnt help. Trump only used the term woman once, while telling the story of a homeless woman who was found pregnant and injecting heroin.
We know where we stand in Trump's vision of our union, tweeted the National Women's Law Center after his speech.

Women in pussy hats who hate him are not worth consuming the President’s precious time. If they dropped off the face of the earth, none of us would care.
But he DID mention AMERICANS and “we” and “us” at least a hundred times which covers all of us without balkanizing and dividing us. People are so used to Democrats dividing us every which way possible they simply cannot understand unifying speech. What we have lost! Not many years ago, everybody knew we were in this together as AMERICANS.
What was conspicuously absent was “I, me, mine,” etc that his predecessor used a couple hundred times in every speech.
You quoted me for something I didn’t say.
Perhaps the ACLU needs to drop the “A” part of it name if they are so offended by the word “American.”
What fools.
You missed the best speech ever! Be sure to find it online and watch the whole thing.
Yes he did. He kept saying Americans.
"jobs" probably was more of a "trigger" to millennials than using the word America 80 times
I guess the grieving mother whose son was murdered by North Korea doesn’t count?
Bet she enjoyed the rebuttal...from the family(Kennedy’s)who just drowned their women with respect.
I meant to quote the article. I guess it looked like I was quoting you. I do that all the time. I guess I should address those kind to "all."
Lo siento, mijito.
“Ignoring womens issues during the most important policy-shaping speech of the year doesnt help——————”
I AM a woman and there are no women’s issues in this country just a bunch of whiners who want attention.
Women in this country are treated very well.
Do things sometimes seem unfair?
Yes,that’s life,
.
I fhe had specified sexes, they would then be bitching because he was pigeon holing them into genders when so many don't relate that way....
Again no mention Trump has more women in senior positions in his admin that any President ever. As he did in his businesses. He does not care whether you are a man or a woman, just if youre competent.
Yes he did Nicole...he called them Americans!
No problemo, amigo.
#MeNeither
Wait..wait..
Trump mentioned America and Americans a thousand times. Are women not part of America and Americans?
Yes the Towering Intellect author is not correct. In fact the President talked about the brave woman hurricane rescue officer as he was telling her story and having her receive everyone’s appreciation not once but at least twice.
There may have been other references as well honoring other specific women. In general in the president spoke of significant accomplishments, not simply one’s status of occupying a given gender category.

Who would have thought that Maynard G. Krebs would be the model for an entire generation.
