President Donald Trump said many words during his hour and 20 minute long State of the Union address Tuesday evening, but he did not mention women once.
Trumps first year in office was a landmark year for women, as the #MeToo and Times Up movements shaped political and popular culture. Multiple elected and appointed officials were forced to resign after admitting to sexual harassment and assault, and more women than ever will run for office in 2018.
The president, meanwhile, made several attempts to limit access to reproductive care, refused to call himself a feminist and was accused of cheating on his wife with adult film star Stephanie Gregory Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels. Trump's annual average approval rating for his first year in office was only 33 percent among women, compared with 45 percent among men.
But its not just Trump: Republicans also have a female problem.
According to recent polling, women favor Democrats over Republicans in the November midterm elections by 16 points, while men support both parties at parity. Such data indicates that Trump "is not likely to be much help in rallying women to support Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections," said Gallup's Megan Brenan.
Ignoring womens issues during the most important policy-shaping speech of the year doesnt help. Trump only used the term woman once, while telling the story of a homeless woman who was found pregnant and injecting heroin.
We know where we stand in Trump's vision of our union, tweeted the National Women's Law Center after his speech.

Her Twitter feed is completely anti-Trump, anti-Republican.
And I should care what this gaping, flapping tw@ht has to say???
He didn’t mention the pussy hats, either?!
The ACLU says Trump said America more than 80 times. Last time I looked, women make up just over half of the population in America. He also talked about jobs, and last I looked, many women have jobs in America.
I don’t recall him specifically mentioning men either.
That’s it! DJT is finished for sure now.
The Officer and wife who adopted that wonderful baby from that poor woman racked by heroin?
Gee, I only watched the first ten minutes, and I heard him mention the First Lady, and lead two standing ovations for Coast Guard aviation electronics technician Ashlee Leppert, who (it appeared to me) is a woman.
He did refer to all Americans in several ways. Memo to writer: All Americans include women.
Read my lips...brain dead child of the the low life Democrats. “POTUS, Trump addressed the American people last evening...and both women and men make up what we call the people. What a blooming idiot.
He mentioned Americans.
He put women and men on an equal playing field — we are all Americans.
To segregate part of the population and to speak to them as some sort of “other” and specify that a particular part of the speech for about “women”, it seems to me, would have been rather sexist.
Glad he avoided that and just used a broad, welcoming, equitable term: Americans.
Trump mentioned Americans quite a few times. That includes women, doesn’t it?
Not true, he named the two girls murdered by the MS13 gang members as well as their mothers and the girl who gave up her baby to the husband and wife.
Guess she is only worried about AA giveaways and abortion.
Beat me by one second!
Unfortunately like it or not women are the most gullible to thesocialist crap that the Democrats peddle and enter the number one reason why Democrats even still win elections
Here’s the Towering Intellect who wrote the article:
Oh, that picture speaks volumes. Just what we all need is to be lectured by a know-nothing fruit bat.
Am I not an American? Americans and the pronoun, we, were mentioned many times.
Is this person living in some era or country where women were not counted in a census?
What a ridiculous creature!
The last time I looked women are Americans which were celebrated last night.
"Trump didn't mention women."
Yes he did. He mentioned America and Americans so many times the ACLU almost had a seizure.
Perhaps she meant womyn?
The dear things are so confused today.
