Meryl Streep has filed a trademark application for the rights to her own name in media and entertainment.
The application, filed with the U.S. Trademark Office last week, asks for exclusive rights to the name Meryl Streep as it relates to live, televised, and movie appearances by a professional actress and entertainer, as well as personal appearances and speaking engagements.
The trademark, if granted, would also prevent others from using her name on websites relating to the film and entertainment industry.
A 21-time Oscar nominee, Streep is up for Best Actress again this year for portraying Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham in the Steven Spielberg Pentagon Papers drama The Post. She is also set to join the cast of HBOs Big Little Lies for Season 2.

Well I take great comfort in knowing that Ms. Streep will never have to trademark her, um, likeness.
AND if another actress who has a birth name the same would be forced to change it?
Totally unnecessary and a waste of time and money on her part..............................................nobody else would want it................
Has she filed for trademark over “hag”, “talent-free”, “LIB-idiot”, fading has been” and “wretch”? If not, why not?
Now we need to be careful. On FR her name shall forever be what ?
And the only reason to trademark anything is to prevent it being used for things you don’t want it used for.
But she is a public figure...so her name is already her “brand.”
ALAR MERYL..........................
Meryl what’s her name.
>>>On FR her name shall forever be what ?<<<
Myrtle Stripp . . .
Streep Throat?
Meryl ‘ALAR IS KILLING OUR CHILDREN!’ Streep, has a nice ring to it...................
That takes narcissism to a whole new level! I’m surprised BHO didn’t do it first!
Perfect. :D
Tatoo a trademark symbol on her forehead then. WTF?
Hasn’t “Dipshit” already been taken?
She’s such a phoney bologna!
Hopefully this will force IMDB to remove all references to her. Eliminating all publicity is death to celebrities.
Happens all the time with actors.
Michael Keaton is Michael Keaton because his real name is Michael Douglas, and that one was taken.
William H. Macy had to add the H because William Macy had co-starred on Maude and had the name first.
