Back in New York City for the first time since George W. Bushs first term and drenched in the politics of the Donald Trump era, last nights Grammy Awards tanked in the all-important ratings, was rockin with multiple wins for a very non-political Bruno Mars and a very very political Kendrick Lamar.
The more than three-hour long CBS show also had an audio book audition cameo by Hillary Clinton a use or two of the censor button, a lot of U2 and Sting, a powerful Times Up speech by Janelle Monáe and an equally powerful performance by Kesha and a chorus of supporters.
There was a Jay for President shout out from Lamar for a Trump scrapping,
With a 12.7/21 in metered market ratings, the Recording Academys big hootenanny was way down from the early numbers for the LA-based February 13, 2017 59th annual show. By way down, I mean a just over 20% decline from last year to what looks to be an all-time low for the ceremony.

And this morning, at the Network, the programmers will be scratching their heads, exclaiming, "How could this have happened?"
Bruno Mars is cotton candy. The few songs I hear are meh.
I wonder if they are going to do the Christopher Cross thing on him.

Two obvious reasons:
1. Politics and entertainment do not mix especially in this PC environment.
2. The music today SUCKS. Sales are down and so are the ratings.
I have never watched the Grammys aside from short clips that are shown on a news program. It appears that greater numbers of people have decided that they have much better things to do with their time than watch entertainment elites engage in a televised circle....
America is just a bunch of racist, sexist, homophobes anyway.
My kids all wanted to watch, but it because very anti-Trump very fast and my wife and I retreated to the kitchen for an adult beer-verage or two.
What a missed opportunity. James Corden could have come out of that massive superstar in the US. Instead he tainted himself with the stink that is destroying popular culture. One expects a certain amount of liberal stupidity, but that was a literal shshow.
Remember, middle-America, America’s media elites HATE YOU.
Methinks you should be the role model in your children's lives, rather than letting godless communists do it for you.
Cant remember the last time I bought a CD.
Well I would have watched but I had a very important appointment that couldnt be missed. I had to wash my hair.
One of the presenters was railing about (approximately) "Needing to vote, but the world is over, anyway, so why bother." WBill Jr. asked what that was all about.
"Nothing, son. She's just a very bitter old woman.", was my reply.
"Oh, OK.", he said, and went back to playing his game.
I was heartened by this. One, that the Dems are giving up, and two, that my kid could care less about it, either way.
You are correct. As I scan my library’s CD collection, the compilations of today’s “hits” draw a yawn. Who are these idiots, and you call this “music”?
Plus, they’re such phonies. So full of themselves and not nearly as “cool” and NOT ANYWAYS NEAR as smart as they pretend
How did they get Andrew Zimmern to escort Hillary into the sprinter?
I think people are definitely sick of all of the politics. The Golden Globes dropped 25% of it’s audience from the first to the third hour (much higher than usual). Ratings for the Screen Actors Guild Awards were also down.
Honestly, at this point, I think even liberals are sick of this. Most people have moved on since the election.
A self congratulatory, group think reinforcing, useful idiots on parade ceremony and the best they can come up with is the drunken, yet to be indicted failed bride of the disbarred, impeached former President.
Yep, that’s about right for them.
