James Franco Was Scrubbed From Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue Cover
Hollywood Reporter ^ | January 25, 2018 | Chris Gardner

Vanity Fair debuted its anticipated Hollywood Portfolio today, and on the magazine's website the headline read, in part, "12 Extraordinary Stars, One Momentous Year." There was meant to be another star on the coveted cover spread, but he did not make the final cut due to the momentous year's most powerful movement, the Hollywood Reporter has learned.

According to multiple sources familiar with the shoot, James Franco sat for a photo shoot and interview and was to be featured in the magazine's Annie Leibovitz-shot portfolio. He was removed from the cover digitally, however, due to allegations of sexual misconduct that surfaced in the wake of his Golden Globe win for The Disaster Artist. Subjects for the Vanity Fair cover are often photographed separately in small groups and combined via digital imaging — Franco's removal, then, did not require a reshoot. That said, it's highly unusual for a star to be removed from an elaborate photo layout, especially so close to publication.

Maybe he was so freaked out by Reese Witherspoon’s third leg he wanted off.

And would you want to appear with Oprah Winfrey knowing she has three hands?

“James Franco has become an Unperson.”

Just out of curiosity, I was looking up information on the show “The Handmaiden’s Tale”. Was this a reference to that ?

Also, Oprah is holding a woman by the waist. WTF ? I thought these people wanted to get away from this sort of thing.

I don’t imagine any photographer, or magazine (Vanity or not) has the authority over Oprah to get her to do something she doesn’t want to do.

All you have to do, to ruin someone’s life and career in Holly-weird these days is just ‘accuse’ them of sexual harassment or worse.

Doesn’t have to be true at all, just the accusation is enough to get them blacklisted...........................

Are you under 18 years of age? It was an obvious reference to that classic dystopic novel, 1984, by the famed George Orwell.

By the way: What is "The Handmaiden's Tale?" Sounds like something by the Minnesänger Walther von der Vogelweide.

Regards,

Franco has denied the claims. During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he said, "I pride myself on taking responsibility for things that I’ve done. I have to do that to maintain my well-being. I do it whenever I know that there is something wrong or needs to be changed. I make it a point to do it. The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate, but I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long. So I don’t want to shut them down in any way. It’s, I think, a good thing, and I support it."

English Translation: "I am a good liberal so I have to say I support the liberal cause of the day, but dammit all those women are lying about me."

The issue with Franco is not just one or two rumors. If you were to spend some time on the Hollywood rumor sites you would see that there are a lot of stories from different people about different incidents.

The consensus is that not only is he a predator, he is pretty much a jerk. I think the fact that he treats everyone like crap makes him more unliked than the sex stuff.

The Stalinists invented the process, but the term “unperson” comes from “1984”.

BOL! My wife and I have joked about going to Stanford and getting an arm and hand transplant. We can't decide what side to have the extra arm or hand attached or to have it attached to the front and middle of our chest.

Looks like the old ho decided to have her transplanted arm and hand put on her left side.

Oh, I’m quite familiar with it’s use in 1984. Handmaiden’s Tales was actually written in 1985 (Ish?) and I believe it was a response to Reagan’s presidency, and the Religious Right.

This is a story that’s been adapted for Hulu in the current year. The premise follows.

In a dystopian near-future, Fundamentalist Christians have taken over the US and turned it into a feminist nightmare. Women are stripped of all rights and privileges and are only made to reproduce and serve as slaves. You know, because Christians.

There is a lot of talk that it’s in response to Trump (of couse, why not?!) but it was greenlit and started to film before the elections in 2016 so it’s not that.

I just wanted to talk to someone about the show. I haven’t seen it yet but it seems utterly ridiculous. Creators of the show state that it’s actually not anti-christian and that the fundamentalists in the show have “grossly mistranslated the old testament”.

But if what I think of this show is true, it needs to be removed.
