Amazon wants to put a camera and microphone in your bedroom with the UK launch of its latest Echo home device. The camera on the £119.99 ($129) Echo Spot, which doubles up as a 'smart alarm', will probably be facing directly at the user's bed. The device, which is already available in the US has such sophisticated microphones it can hear people talking from across the room - even if music is playing.

If the device is there, and it’s picking up voices, you have to assume that the provider is gathering the information to use to sell you something, and the the government is licking its chops about all that data that it can subpoena to roast your ass with.

I visit a friends home frequrently and it is becoming uncomfortable due to the number of Echo, Alexa and Spot devices located thoughout their home.

The damned things are constantly listening and saying “I don’t know the answer”, “I didn’t understand”, and even giving answers when it was not asked a thing.

I was offered one of these things and declined.

Not ever going to happen.

Several years ago Comcast went to a voice activated remote. I said, “Oh no you don’t!” I never unpacked it or installed the batteries. About a year ago the sent me an upgrade. That too went into the bottom of the TV stand, still wrapped. I don’t want anyone or anything listening to me!
