Amazon wants to put a camera and microphone in your bedroom with the UK launch of its latest Echo home device. The camera on the £119.99 ($129) Echo Spot, which doubles up as a 'smart alarm', will probably be facing directly at the user's bed. The device, which is already available in the US has such sophisticated microphones it can hear people talking from across the room - even if music is playing.

I’m just a simple real estate guy but it seems to me that getting one of these devices is about as stupid as sending fluid samples to some DNA company so it can tell you where it’s computers tell it what country you’re from. In both instances, you have to give them some of your money.

I just read an article about DNA testing...it's worse than you think! They're compiling this base and looking at your genetic propensities in order to market specific products to us. In other words, they're selling your DNA profiles to advertisers!

I think if you set your default audio input to “line-in” instead of “built-in microphone” you should be set.
