A British butcher who got locked in a freezer says he was saved by a frozen sausage that he used as a battering ram. Chris McCabe says he became trapped in the walk-in freezer at his shop in Totnes, southwest England, last month when wind blew the door shut. The safety button to open the door had frozen in the -20 C (-4 F) chill. McCabe told website Devon Live that he used the meaty tube "like a battering ram" and managed to unstick the button after several blows.

Some restaurants have industrial strength wall-in refrigereators and freezers that are located outdoors.

My first job was at the Officer's Open Mess at Ft. Harrison, Indiana.

The large refrigerator and freezers were both outdoors.

I recall one night when the air temperature was -15 that the refrigerator and freezers both felt warm.

First innocent question;
“Do you always freeze your sausage?”

Second innocent question;
“How do you thaw it out?”

Third innocent question;
“Is it still rigid after you thaw it out?”

Thaw it out with some hot cider, nothing goes better with a frozen sausage then a hot Dickens Cider.

I don't know. Maybe it's just me but wouldn't it be incumbent upon the designer(s) of this safety button to make sure that it works in a cold environment?

Like a freezer.

I've done a couple.
I'm not very good at them.
I'll try harder now.
