What if the DOJ inspector general is a black hat operative of the Obama gang? What effect would a soft peddled report or an obvious whitewash of the deep state's intelligence operations have on the momentum of the Nunes/Grassley investigations? I have been incredulous about the inaction of Jeff Sessions the last twelve months. Is it possible that the optimum time to appoint an independent counsel is after all the players, including Horowitz, have laid their cards on the table? I have tremendous confidence in president Trump but not so much in Sessions. However after all the carping many of us have done about Sessions the Trump train is rolling along. As of now all of the deep state operatives (save Horowitz, if he is one) have exposed themselves and are sitting far out on very high limbs. I'm praying that Sessions will finally produce the means to saw them all off.
I would be very surprised.
Already plan B, C, D, E and F are on the table. There is way too much going on with the release of all the documents that were handed over to Congress and the “witness” before Congress with all of his information.
Prediction: whitewash. Sort of a Comey type deal...detail all the stuff that’s wrong then end without intent. Sessions will probably have final say on how it comes out but he’s afraid of his own shadow.
“Already plan B, C, D, E and F are on the table. There is way too much going on with the release of all the documents that were handed over to Congress and the witness before Congress with all of his information.”
Means absolutely zero unless Jeff wants to do something. Might as well have Holder or Lynch back as AG.
With what has been revealed publicly I doubt there can be a whitewash. Either the deep state knows whats about to come out so they have been leaking things in a slow drip instead of the shock of all of this coming out at once and thus they are softening the blow or there are indeed good guys somewhere that doesnt like what has been going on and are exposing it which forces the IG and Congress to act accordingly
We have parallel investigations in the House, Senate, and maybe other internal DOJ investigations so he better think twice if his “white wash” doesn’t jive.
Unlikely. This is a guy who tried to do the right thing throughout Zero’s admin and was stonewalled. He’s out for blood.
I believe the IG is limited in the Scope of his Investigation and Report. Seems like too many are climbing aboard the IG train blindly. Meanwhile Trump seems to be stirring the pot rather well. Sessions has no drive to help. Trump will get his WIN. Many will lose jobs and respect. Very few will be actually charged with anything. The Freepers that are in Sessions corner as a GOD of some type will be trying to cling to Trump. Trump is Winning despite Sessions. The IG will help but it doesn’t really matter.
I keep thinking that this time it will different....but we have all been let down pretty much 100% of the time.
Charlie Brown’s football seems to be our lot in life...Praying for some type of return to the rule of law here soon.
Do you think whatever the IG says will force Sessions to act? I am not sure myself but “something is wrong with Sessions’ position(s) and actions.
Whitewash, ha! Just because the IG worked under Comey, whitewashed Fast & Furious, and was nominated by Obama doesn’t mean he will cut them any slack. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that he fought unsuccessfully for several years to have full access to Obama’s Justice and FBI. And Obama was pissed at him for his Fast & Furious report.
He said something scary. The IG cannot investigate Mueller misconduct or abuse.
While we have jurisdiction to review alleged misconduct by Department law enforcement agents, we do not have the same jurisdiction over alleged misconduct committed by Department attorneys when they act in their capacity as lawyers.
You should read this article if you are not familiar with Horowitz:
An Introduction to Inspector General Michael Horowitz
https://www.themarketswork.com/2017/12/23/an-introduction-to-inspector-general-michael-horowitz/
Based on his work/actions to date, I believe Horowitz is a “white hat” & the author says “Thus far, all Ive discovered regarding IG Horowitz appears to indicate hes a man of integrity, possessed with a useful and persistent determination.”
I am hoping we are both correct.
Not sure that would happen-not saying it wont either. It was Obamas Dictatorship that was making the IGs job irrelevant, by not following the law. Denying the IG oversite.
There are two paths - the DoJ will formally receive the report from IG and then forward to Congress. They (Sessions + Wray) may include something explaining what they have done to address any issues or recommendations in the IG report; note there are actually three IG’s in play - Horowitz, NSA (which Rogers initiated and then referred to FISC acknowledging there had been illegal intercept requests) and one other, I believe under DNI but don’t recall. The IG report will go to congress with over 1.2 million pages of supporting documents & a public referral + findings will be made on the oig website. If DoJ does not act, then statute provides that Congress can then return referrals to them.
According to the IG website, the scope of the investigation is limited to DOJ and FBI actions taken during the Hillary email investigation. I believe the investigation also covers various leaks. So all the other stuff would appear not to be covered.
About Horowitz, he's definitely an Obama appointee. I've also seen charges that he's a Barney Frank protege and that he white washed the Fast & Furious investigations although I've not come to any conclusions on those two charges.
About the Nunes, Goodlatte and Grassley committee investigations, I have more confidence in them than I do in the IG investigation.
The biggest question remains however. Who will prosecute, anything? Sessions IS recused on all issues related to the campaign, Hillary and anything connected to all of that. That leaves swampster Rod Rosenstein in charge.
So good luck with that.
Sessions is recused on most of these issues. At this point in time it's still Rosenstein.
The IG report will go to congress with over 1.2 million pages...
I'm not sure how we are supposed to know what the page count will be. The report isn't complete yet.
If DoJ does not act, then statute provides that Congress can then return referrals to them.
Not sure what you mean. Congress can return criminal referrals to the DOJ regardless of what the IG does and what the DOJ does.
I read the article you suggested and have a little more confidence in Horowitz now. It is just so un Obama to allow anyone with any integrity near his administration. It is especially surprising that Obama would allow any one other than a Lynch type flunky in this vital position. Obviously Obama planned to weaponize the FBI and DOJ from the outset of his term in office.
“If DoJ does not act, then statute provides that Congress can then return referrals to them.”
the DOJ can state that they accept the IG’s findings as is, or suggest some differences, and then the DOJ can say that they will create a plan of corrective actions to be taken at some point and some time in the future [until oprah is elected, i presume, with Rosenstein in charge]. they will then report back to the IG annually on their progress associated with the corrective actions enumerated in the IG plan.
why hasn’t any republican congress critters asked their investigative arm, the GAO, to also look into these matters???
