Still not officially confirmed by the White House, there are still several reports indicating President Donald Trump will attend the Alabama-Georgia CFP national championship game Monday in Atlanta.
To say that appearance is rare would be an understatement. Outside of traditional visits to the Army-Navy game, sitting presidents aren't known for attending college football games.
The national championship game? Even further from the norm.
Alabama players had a variety of reactions to the news. "It's pretty cool," said offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher. "I'd be interested see where he's sitting. It's just cool to think that of all the people who are going to be here, and the halftime performers, it shows the magnitude of the game."
Others were surprised when asked for reaction. "The president? I didn't hear that. That's crazy," a smiling Cam Sims said. "I didn't know the president was going to be there but that's kinda great the president would be there."
Ronnie Harrison was more confused by it all. "He's going to be at what game?" he said. "The president? Why?"
Sims was also perplexed by it all.
"I just thought the president, I don't know," he said, "I didn't think the president would watch football and stuff like that."
What a cool picture. Air Force One with President Reagan in the background, and Number 43 with The King in the foreground.
Is it your image/photo? Can I steal a copy?
President Nixon in the Texas locker room in 1969, after they beat Arkansas to win the National Championship.

I love it that he is not going to the NFL.
I bet most of the players don’t know that Trump used to own a pro football team.
Of course Nixon attended the 1969 Texas-Arkansas game other than that I wonder when a sitting president attended a football game other than Army-Navy. And Nixon sat in the crowd not in a luxury booth.
Yup...Exactly.
Now....don't even believe that they're done.
They will create some incident of disrespect to Trump.
Just wait.
(They'll be lucky if Alabama and Georgia fans don't kick some ass too.)

“It amazes me how many people say “just stick to football.” Do football players not deserve a political stance?” Harris wrote.

I don’t know Saban’s politics but I’m certain he has zero tolerance for those kinds of distractions.
How about, “Who cares what they think”.
JoMa
Cotton Speyrer should not have caught that pass.
Good. Trump living in the heads of the LSN.
Right on schedule. As planned.

In 1977 or so I was traveling in NC and decided on a side trip to see what Level Cross looked like. Pulled into Petty Enterprises (think that’s what the sign said)and was welcomed. Two things impressed me; the genuine friendliness of all hands and the cleanliness of a very active shop area.
If ever I need surgery, I hope the crew prepping the OR served apprenticeship at the University of Level Cross.
Wise man!
...or is it wise guy? :-D
Note to Mr. Harris: Welcome to the real world, young man. Where employees at every Fortune 250 company I can think of are subject to some kind of social media policy that restricts what they can say online while employed. Don’t like it? Find another gig.
Ronnie, why is he going? Because he can...
Funny I don’t remember anyone asking people how they felt about Obama going anywhere... I am sure they would not have always liked the answers they got...
Man, this site is SO cool .. seems like there's always at least one of us that was 'there' for so many things that have happened in our world !
Nice vignette, thanks :-)
That was back in the day when the National Champion was decided before the Bowl Games.
