LOS ANGELES — Taping of the game show "Jeopardy!" has been suspended briefly while host Alex Trebek recovers from surgery to remove blood clots from his brain, Trebek and the show's producer said Thursday.
Trebek, 77, who has hosted the quintessential American quiz for more than 33 years, said Thursday that he was diagnosed with the blood clots, a condition called subdural hematoma, in December after he suffered a bad fall in October.
In a video from his home that was posted on the show's official website, Trebek downplayed the operation as "a slight medical problem" and said he hoped to resume taping "very, very soon."
Sony Pictures Entertainment, which produces the program, said in a statement that Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Dec. 15 and underwent surgery the next day.
"He is expected to make a full and complete recovery," the company said. "Alex spent Christmas at home with his family, and he will return to the Jeopardy! studio for taping in mid-January."
Like many other syndicated game shows, "Jeopardy!" is taped months in advance, so Sony said it had plenty of unaired episodes already in the can. It said the only change in its schedule would be to delay the show's annual college championship to April.
I wonder how many hours he spends in front of his dressing room mirror pronouncing upcoming words with just the right accent?
Eh, cut him some slack. In the 1960s, he was one of the original TV hosts for Reach for the Top, a Canadian quiz tournament for high-school students. That makes him the next closest thing to a schoolteacher.
1) Alex is a bit of a liberal, but manages not to be an ass about it.
2) Even though it's a taping, they still take commercial breaks, and Alex chats with the audience. It's really a lot of fun.
3) Yes, they do have a light-up "APPLAUSE" sign.

Darn, I need to see that some time. Somebody posted a link to YT of all the sad liberal MSM faces that night. I didn’t get to see it since my video player wasn’t working at the time. I’ve seen one but I had to skip through it.

I have had the surgery two times (different sides of the brain). In my case it was caused by blood thinners. Another thing I did not know is that taking extra testosterone can also affect blood chemistry. Not good, but in my case at least I had a complete recovery. (They do worry about damage to the brain in these cases but Alex is Canadian so they have good health care)/sarc

I was surprised to learn he was 77 too.
I am 71 and he seems to be a lot more active than I am.

My one friends say he never watches jep because they never have a trashman or a farmer on the show.

SF, you HAVE to see that clip. I think King wanted to bitchslap Wolf! I was watching live and was hoping he would at least shake him some. I’m pretty sure it was PA on the map. Must see tv, boy!
