A 20-year old drunk is a wild man, but a 40-year old drunk is just a drunk.

why-you-dont-need-aa-to-quit-drinking
I didn’t need AA to quit drinking...I did it every day for years.
Turns out, it’s not about quiting, it’s about not starting..I needed AA for that.
...she didnt turn to Alcoholics Anonymous. She decided to do it all on her own, a process she details in her book, This Naked Mind (Avery).
...Grace researched alcohols ill effects and journaled about why she was drinking in an effort to dismantle the assumptions that she had made about the substance that it was calming her nerves or making her more interesting. In fact, she found, it didnt do any of that.
After a two-week period of withdrawal symptoms such as having trouble sleeping, night sweats, anxiety and restlessness, Grace became completely sober using her mind-over-matter technique.
The book tells you how to do it using will power is my guess.
Whatever helps get a person off the booze addiction is a good thing.
My help with out AA was the same as with the smokes it all came down to $$$$
She achieved sobriety without AA. Good for her. But it has helped countless people, while her method has a proven track record of ... one.
AA doesn’t inflict “shame” on anyone. Far from it. And a lot of recovering alkies CAN’T touch even a single drop for fear of a relapse.
This woman is trying to improve on a product that has been very successful for longer than she’s been alive. I suspect it’s more for self-glorification than out of any altruistic imperative.
Can I advertise here too?
BOX of wine? Wine comes in BOXES????
What is it? like those little juice boxes with straws for a new generation??
I know a 44 Mag..
If I drank as much as some of these people I’d weigh north of 400 pounds.
SMART Recovery (smartrecovery.org) is an AA alternative group with a science-based 4-Point Program.
“SMART Recovery is an abstinence-based, not-for-profit organization with a sensible self-help program for people having problems with drinking and using. It includes many ideas and techniques to help you change your life from one that is self-destructive and unhappy to one that is constructive and satisfying. SMART Recovery is not a spin-off of Alcoholics Anonymous. No one will label you an alcoholic, an addict or diseased nor powerless, and if you do not believe in a religion or spirituality, thats fine, too. We teach common sense self-help procedures designed to empower you to abstain and to develop a more positive lifestyle. When you succeed at following our approach, you may graduate from the program, or you may stay around to help others.”
So what? AA does not claim to have exclusive way for alcoholics to quit drinking. It claims to have a way that works
Not discussed here at all that I’ve seen is the latest research treating alcoholics as sugar addicts rather than alcoholics.
It’s compelling research and I write about the link between alcoholism and non-alcoholic obesity.
Will-power is one thing, AA another. But I believe that many alcoholics harbor another condition which males life miserable and unhealthy even when they’re not feeding their addiction.

My Dad was a Marine in the South Pacific in WWII. He died 30 years ago today from alcohol. On his deathbed, he said, “If I can’t drink, I don’t want to live.” And then he died.
btt
I dont count days and I dont even call myself sober, she says. I just feel like Im making conscious choices about drinking every day based on knowledge of what I want.
Denial isnt a river in Egypt, Toots.
Malbec? Yuck.
This year I’ll have my 29th AA birthday. AA saved my life.
AA was of tremendous help to get me sober enough to think straight. I initially attended meetings nearly every day for a few months. But if I still had to sit through meetings full of dry drunks I’d have started drinking again just so I could have some peace and quiet! ;)
I was on a flight with a German couple in the 80’s. They were buying all the flights cans of wine. They were taking them back to Germany to their friends. They couldn’t believe wine was in cans. Only in America.
