Stanford Band Mocks Border Wall, Whataburger in Alamo Bowl Halftime Show
Breitbart Terxas ^ | 12/30/2017 | Bob Price

Attendees at the Valero Alamo Bowl booed the Stanford University Band during its halftime performance after the bandsmen mocked the border wall, Whataburger, and all things Texan. The performance came during the California university’s bowl game versus Texas Christian University (TCU). TCU responded by defeating the Stanford Cardinals.

The Stanford marching band, known for satirical halftime performances, poked fun at Texan’s state pride, the border wall proposed by President Donald Trump, horned frogs (the TCU mascot), and Whataburger (the iconic Texas hamburger chain), KSAT reported. Audience members booed the band loudly when they mocked the border wall, and even louder when they took on Whataburger.

You guys are both sorta right. My understanding is that the vast majority of them are indeed Stanford students, but a few are alumni, dropouts or other non-students. The so-called ‘band’ prides itself on nonconformity and doesn’t bother with a lot of rules about who is or isn’t eligible to show up (with or without a musical instrument) and participate. The presence of non-students among their ranks has been a problem for the university in the past, as the non-students aren’t subject to university discipline for alcohol, drug and other offenses (all of which have been associated with the band for decades).

Here’s one only a few realize:

Stanford University’s federal endowment of more than $17 billion is the fourth largest in the United States.

If they wish to play hardball, let them supply their own balls and bats. Don’t fund them. It is my experience that the first things to go when funds are cut is the music and arts departments, in that order. Let them march to kazoos in cutoffs, tie dye shirts, and converse all star shoes they can get from the second hand store. As you sow, so shall ye reap.

Now we can appreciate that the TV doesn’t show the marching bands any more.

That band has been maniacal for decades. They should be disbanded permanently. Same with the USC band but for different reasons.

How does a marching band mock a hamburger chain?

Rice University has its MOB (Marching Owl Band) with their own satirical and sometimes offensive band performances. One game against Texas featured the formation of the UT tower and band members (as UT students) jumping off the tower and falling into oblivion.

But their favorites for derision was always the humor-devoid Texas Aggies. One time, back in the 1970s, the scene turned violent when the band parodied Reveille, the collie mascot of the Aggies, with the rendition of “How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?” while the band made the formation of a canine taking a dump.

Uniformed Aggie cadets, bayonets drawn, surrounded their section of the stands after Halftime and refused to let them leave until an apology was issued. I surmised that the true reason for the anger was that the lowly Owls were beating the competitive Aggies in the game at the time.

Especially the pantywaist libs who are overtaken by illegals, in their own state of Mexifornia!!

I have no love of liberals or illegals but you are living in a glass house and throwing stones when you call California Mexifornia

I would think, being it's your state, that Texas trails California by roughly only 700,000 illegals and it has become the number one destination for them while California is actually seeing illegals leave the state. You have just as many crazy liberals in your Universities and surrounding cities. Granted you don't have Hollywood liberals but you do have your share of crazy democrats, con we say Sheila Jackson Lee? And how about those Castro boys? And let us not for get about those in Texans with their own TEXIT plan.

I’m not sure I’m the best one to make fun of a horned frog mascot if my own mascot is a dancing tree.

Pac-12 is having a rough bowl season.

Good point about the tree but I would point out that their actual “mascot” is the color cardinal, not the bird, mind you. The tree was a development in the 60s or 70s. And the PAC12 is not exactly shining in the second season and it has nothing to do with being relegated to late games since they are playing in multiple time zones.

When we do road trips and head back into the border of Texas, I know I am home when we stop in at Whataburger.

The easiest way to deal with them is to not invite them. You are not required to invite the visiting team band.

Their entire routine was “5 Alternative Facts” presented by The Onion and The White House......minimal amount of music was played as a mocking announcer made fun of various political issues. The Wall would fund 20 million college scholarships...Texans are so humble they only built their State Capital slightly higher than the National Capital...and made some crack about Whataburger being water or something. Then, of course, had to end it with a crack about Net Neutrality. It was stupid and condescending and they spelled out Xmas as a slam to Texas Christian University. Really low class attempt to smear Texas for supporting President Trump

Yes, I particularly recall that as well. It might have been quite by accident, but the contrast became apparent - the network broadcast at one point focused on a "young lady next door" type playing the saxophone and cheering her team on to victory in what might have been her last game playing in the band, on her way to adult life.

A few minutes later, Coach G. was trying to do a post-game interview on the field and having to shout to be heard over a bunch of juveniles with horns and drums...

And that's just what we saw on TV.

I've always understood that the Satanf-

Sorry, I've always understood that the Stanford band is a student group. No faculty or adult supervision of any kind, just a bunch of college kids reverting to their lowest common low denominator and pretending to play some music.

It's not that I'm well connected that way, but that's what I've heard, it's a student group with no mention of outsiders although one might suppose that could be possible.

Speaking also of what one might hear, one might hear whispers or innuendo of serious substance abuse if one should find oneself in position to overhear someone else who at least claims to know...

For a good example of what a, let's call it a "Stanford-type" band could be if only there were someone in charge, I've heard that the Rice University band is worth checking out.

No marching band type uniforms, no fancy marching formations, just some students casually and neatly attired for a football game, playing music and cheering their team on...

But given a choice I'll take the other band from that Fiesta bowl game you mentioned over the Sata-

Sorry... I did it again. The Stanford University band, the pride of... you know, that particular university.
