Within minutes of Erica Garner's death Saturday, the administrator of her Twitter account faced backlash over a post requesting that only black journalists reach out to the family.
"Out of respect to Erica please do not request comment if the journalist is not Black," tweeted the account used by Garner, who became an anti-police brutality activist after the death of her dad, Eric Garner, who died in 2014 after being placed in an illegal chokehold by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo.
The tweet drew ire from some Twitter users, who called it "racist" and said it affronted Erica Garner's legacy of unity and equality.
Reggie Harris, a friend of Erica Garner’s from California who spent time at her hospital bedside after she suffered a massive heart attack last weekend, was identified earlier in the week by her relatives as the person operating her Twitter feed. He did not respond to requests for comment Saturday.

Citing Ritter's tweet, Garner's account fired back a harshly worded response.
"Out of respect to Erica please do not request comment if the journalist is not Black."
"Which one of those people were with her last night, this morning, the day before, which one of those people was with her on Christmas or did she call when she felt suicidal," the reply read.
"Choke on an entire bag of d---s you disrespectful snowflake!"
Other Twitter users agreed with Ritter. "I'm so saddened by this tweet," a Baltimore resident tweeted at the Garner account. "Is the objective to divide? If so, congratulations on your success."
The Garner account continued to post and retweet messages throughout the day, including one targeting the mayor.
"de Blasio ... explain how she died with no justice," the account posted within minutes of a condolence message from Hizzoner saying, "This city will miss her unshakable sense of justice and passion for humanity."
Twitter does not erase accounts of users who have died unless immediate family members provide administrators with an official death certificate. It's unclear if Garner's family intends to keep her account going or request that it be taken down.
Garner’s relatives joined civil rights leaders on Saturday to mourn the 27-year-old mother of two.
"She was a warrior, she was a fighter and we didn't pull the plug on her," Esaw Snipes, Garner's mother, told the Daily News.
"She left on her own terms."

You know, this is some real BS here. The agents of this family and other black news-families have been stoking a race war for over 2 decades. It’s as bad as it was in the 60s.

Can a people taken from the jungles of Africa and forced into slavery be fully integrated as citizens in a majority white population?
The whites were descendants of Europeans who had created a majestic civilization. The former slaves had been tribal peoples with no written language and virtually no intellectual achievements.
With an unwillingness to achieve critical mass integration in America, a great swath of the black community (not all of course) are bonded by a common hatred of whites as a means of getting what they otherwise could not achieve on their own.
I reject the whites are bigoted argument outright.
Instead, whites and others are exhausted by the social pathologies, the violence, the endless complaints, the blind racial solidarity, the bottomless pit of grievances, excuses and reflexive animosity.
Probably dog-s... - New Yorkers are pretty good about picking up after their dogs, and there are containers on the street or in parks for the bags of dog droppings.
That said, this family is nuts. Love to see how they have politicized and racialized the death of this woman, which had nothing to do with the police or anything else except the fact that she had a congenital heart problem and, while not as obese as her father, was overweight and probably did nothing to deal with her health. I guess $5.9 million wasn’t enough for the family, and they’re hoping for another dip into NYC’s bottomless well of payout money.
I read somewhere that it wasn’t congenital, but her heart became enlarged by her frequently smoking crack. I don’t know if that’s true, but it seems to fit.
Black racism in its finest. Jesse and Al would be proud.
Think of great black men like George Washington Carver and Frederick Douglass, for starters.
It is the Great Society programs and the education system that has destroyed blacks, not the lack of integration.
If a conservative posted that on twitter then twitter would take down their account. And consider that the comments are not even coming from the registrant. Another reason to take it down.
It seems some can’t find a Black supremacist (Erica Garner) if she bit them in the arse.
Channel 46 CBS Atlanta is repeatedly running the Erica Garner story with a photo of what is purported to be the dead corpse of Erica’s father Eric Garner.
But this corpse has eyes that repeatedly blink.
Is this fake news? Or What?
