Within minutes of Erica Garner's death Saturday, the administrator of her Twitter account faced backlash over a post requesting that only black journalists reach out to the family.
"Out of respect to Erica please do not request comment if the journalist is not Black," tweeted the account used by Garner, who became an anti-police brutality activist after the death of her dad, Eric Garner, who died in 2014 after being placed in an illegal chokehold by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo.
The tweet drew ire from some Twitter users, who called it "racist" and said it affronted Erica Garner's legacy of unity and equality.
Reggie Harris, a friend of Erica Garners from California who spent time at her hospital bedside after she suffered a massive heart attack last weekend, was identified earlier in the week by her relatives as the person operating her Twitter feed. He did not respond to requests for comment Saturday.
Erica Garner, daughter of police chokehold victim, dies "Those who knew erica call this post a disrespect to her and her legacy," ABC anchor Bill Ritter tweeted about the black journalists only request.
Citing Ritter's tweet, Garner's account fired back a harshly worded response.
"Out of respect to Erica please do not request comment if the journalist is not Black."
"Which one of those people were with her last night, this morning, the day before, which one of those people was with her on Christmas or did she call when she felt suicidal," the reply read.
"Choke on an entire bag of d---s you disrespectful snowflake!"
Other Twitter users agreed with Ritter. "I'm so saddened by this tweet," a Baltimore resident tweeted at the Garner account. "Is the objective to divide? If so, congratulations on your success."
The Garner account continued to post and retweet messages throughout the day, including one targeting the mayor.
"de Blasio ... explain how she died with no justice," the account posted within minutes of a condolence message from Hizzoner saying, "This city will miss her unshakable sense of justice and passion for humanity."
Twitter does not erase accounts of users who have died unless immediate family members provide administrators with an official death certificate. It's unclear if Garner's family intends to keep her account going or request that it be taken down.
Garners relatives joined civil rights leaders on Saturday to mourn the 27-year-old mother of two.
"She was a warrior, she was a fighter and we didn't pull the plug on her," Esaw Snipes, Garner's mother, told the Daily News.
"She left on her own terms."
Far more of a tragedy was the death of a brave man, Emmanuel Mensah, a U.S. Army mechanic on leave after completing basic training. This hero ran into a burning Bronx apartment building several times to rescue other residents, finally succumbing to the smoke and flames himself. The fire was caused by the 3 year old son of a totally irresponsible welfare breeder. This kid had a HISTORY of turning the stove off and on, and his worthless mother couldn't be bothered to take preventative measures to keep it from happening again. When the fire started--which killed TWELVE PEOPLE in the building, this garbage took her 2 kids and ran out the door, leaving her door open to better spread the flames and failed to warn her neighbors to get out. May Mr. Mensab's memory be a blessing.
In fairness, her family only speaks ebonics and it was expected that normal reporters would have a language barrier.
Er . . . that’s racist.
can we stop hearing about them now?
bttt
I think it’s a great idea. Only black owned outlets, journo’s, etc. should be allowed to report on BLM and such.
I’m just so sick of the double standard and hypocrisy!
Who is her heart attack being blamed on?
The family cook?
BLM is a thoroughly racist movement, so this is no surprise.
+1
Not until they get a memorial statue
It would be to their benefit to include the drive-by media. After all, they’d blame her passing on climate change, or because Trump is a racist, or both.

...
Absolutely wrong. It wasn’t a chokehold.
The ME found no damage to the windpipe or the small bones in the neck, plus the video showed it wasn’t a chokehold. There was no indictment from the local grand jury or from Obama’s Justice department.
Twitter rep? What does that mean? Someone who can write?
Amen. May he rest in peace.
The article was almost incomprehensible....
In fairness I support their right to choose who they will talk to, just as I support the Christian baker to decide who he will, and who he won’t bake a cake for.
Blacks have replaced whites as the most bigoted people in America.
Don’t let facts get in the way of the narrative ‘cause that would be raciss!/sarc
