Four black teenagers were just arrested for killing a man — a man in his 20s, engaged to be married — by throwing a bag of sand off an overpass. It smashed through the windshield and the poor guy succumbed to “blunt force trauma” after lingering for several days in intensive care. The question is whether the teens will ba charged as adults.

I recall doing some trucking in the late 70’s where kids would be on overpasses dropping rocks and bricks on cars and trucks.

Quit picking on those "teens". They were just turning their lives around! They were aeronautical engineers in training!

We had one overpass so notorious that they enclosed the walkway with cyclone fencing to stop the thrown projectiles - and still had stuff dumped off the bridge!

They caught more than a couple but it was like the dodo duty was handed off from thug to thug.

Boys charged with murder after sandbag from overpass kills man

Authorities in Toledo, Ohio, have charged four boys with murder after a sandbag they allegedly dropped from an interstate overpass killed a passenger in a car.
Authorities say three 14-year-olds and a 13-year-old threw sandbags and other objects onto the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 on December 19.

One of the bags crashed through the window of a car traveling below, hitting passenger Marquise Byrd on the head.
Byrd, a 22-year-old from Warren, Michigan, later died.

The boys, who have not been identified because they are minors, were arraigned Wednesday on charges of murder and vehicular vandalism. All four boys denied the charges against them, said Lori Olender, deputy chief of the juvenile division of the Lucas County Prosecutor’s office.
Olender said a second car was damaged in the incident, so the teens each face two counts of vehicular vandalism. No one was injured in the second car, she said.
It’s not the first time teens have been charged with murder in such a case. In October, a Michigan judge denied bond for five teenagers accused of throwing a 6-pound rock off an overpass near Flint, killing Kenneth White Jr., 32.

Those teens face second-degree murder and other felony charges, and could be imprisoned for life. They have pleaded not guilty.

Best outcome would have been a sharp-shooter positioned to take him out in the act of throwing a rock.

A 5 pound rock contacting a car moving at 65 mph will have an impact force of 700 ft pounds. Fatal.

In geology-speak, a boulder has to be at least 10.1 inches in diameter. But yeah - in layman’s terms, these are “rocks” - whether they are cobbles or boulders. Regardless - deadly when dropped on cars.

I’d charge him with multiple counts of attempted murder and put him away for life, with no possibility of parole.
