A Florida woman was arrested just days before her 94th birthday when she refused to leave her home after being evicted, police said.

Juanita Fitzgerald remains held on $500 bail on a trespassing charge at the Lake County Jail as of Thursday, one day ahead of her 94th birthday, according to jail records.

How sick is this? Tossing a 94 year old woman out of her residence at a place that claims:

Our Mission: Originating from a Christian commitment of service, our mission is to provide high quality care, services and residential communities for all seniors.

Our Vision: To advance better living for all seniors, enabling them to remain home for life.

Our Promise: Excellence that transforms lives.

This place is part of a chain of senior residences of a company called "National Church Residences". Right on their web page here (I found it, to read all about a company that would toss a 94 year old woman out of her familiar setting). These HYPOCRITES using a reference to religious compassion right in their name further state on their webpage:

Core Values

Mission We are driven by a deep sense that our work should serve God and always produce good for others.
Compassion We truly care about people and seek to treat residents, employees, and neighbors with dignity, respect, and fairness.
Professionalism We strive to be excellent at what we do and to be sound managers of resources with solid, ethical business practices.
Leadership We will be leaders in our field: setting a good example for others, visionary, growing, and constantly improving.

LIARS. Their cup overrunneth with baloney.

Very elderly people need to stick with their familiar settings and routines. Deviation from these causes them distress and disorientation. It's cruel. And so are these hypocritical "church residence" people, who solicit donations from people right on their webpage. And they couldn't use some of these donations to subsidize a 94 year old woman's rent?

You are joking right?

“Staff at the senior living center offered to help Fitzgerald find new living accommodations, according to the police report, but she refused the assistance. She also turned down help from the Department of Children and Families, as well as the Department of Elder Affairs and eight other agencies, police said.”

She wanted a confrontation, she got it.

It’s sad, but it is not sick.
This lady has refused many very credible offers of assistance, probably because that would change her routine.
If she has some level of alzheimers (not out of the question at her age), she would still need to accept a representative acting as her advocate. The fact of her age does not in and of itself mandate ongoing accommodation from the property owner. I say that as someone who has rented out rooms to others on a small, private scale.

She wanted a confrontation, she got it.

And how do you know what her mental state is? Very elderly people are also known to be stubborn and sometimes not exactly rational. What does this residence do with the donations they solicit right on their webpage? I would think some of the donations would go to subsidize people who can't pay all of their rent.

Is there a law that prohibits one from getting evicted near ones birthday?

I’d be curious to know the whole story.

I once had to fire someone which was an easy decision until it became my responsibility. Anyone looking at the situation from the outside would have said “Fire the incompetent deadbeat with the bad attitude.” But having to do it makes one think about the person’s kids/family, and also about the person’s future. She wasn’t evil. Just incompetent. And I think the bad attitude was most likely a defense mechanism covering for her incompetence.

In the end, what made it a little easier was knowing that she was taking the job away from multiple people who wanted it and that she was causing havoc at work for many, many people. So bottom line, it was sympathy for her vs. sympathy for all who had to put up with her and clean up after her.

Perhaps the 94 year old woman was creating serious problems for other residents? I don’t know if that’s the case. Just saying there might be more people to consider other than just the one woman.

At that age one must entertain the real possibility of some kind of brain disorder/deterioration.I wonder if any kind of comprehensive neuropsychiatric evaluation has been done on her.

You could just invent one. Doesn't seem to be a problem here.

What the problem? She’s in jail and has 3 square meals and a bed. Doubt there’ll be jailhouse bingo, though.

Please, not every elderly person is suffering from dementia... I know plenty of very mentally capable and cantankerous. Just because someone is old doesn’t mean they are insane.

I’ve known several folks in their 90s who are just as sharp as they’ve always been. One 104 who still went dancing at the bar.

There’s more to this story than is being reported.

It’s like this. Some people say they are Christians, and some people are.

These just say they are.

As an aside, as a rule of thumb if someone looks frail, or is old enough to be called elderly, the only people who should try to involuntarily move them are paramedics and ambulance medics.

It is not something for the untrained, or even the police, to attempt to do.

Aside from the sad story of the elderly resident, SCREW the media for writing stories like this. It makes not a whit of difference that this event occurred days from her birthday, or just before Christmas or on the Xth anniversary of something important to her. It makes. No. Difference. It's immaterial. This is clickbait at its worst, designed to rally people emotionally rather than logically. SCREW the media that writes this crap. / rant
