The first that comes to mind for me: "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial". Sappy and overly sentimental.
(And while I'm at it, "Titanic")
We agree on TITANIC! OTOH, both TITANIC ( with Clifton Webb ) and A NIGHT TO REMEMBER are great films about what happened to that ship.
A couple of years ago, I saw Taxi Driver on TCM. I was a young child when it came out and I had always heard about how good and disturbing it was. My review: BORING!!
American Beauty was stereotype heaped on stereotype of bad conservative, good liberal. But the liberals were truly depraved, which is what made them good, while the conservatives were just everything that liberals fear. And the whole plot was based around a middle aged man (the protagonist if you will) in heat over a high school girl. Sick.
Only the critics liked that movie. It was heterophobic filth.
Last time I checked I was a guy:)
Bingo. Couldn’t even sit through one of them, so boring.
[E T was a bad movie.]
Yes it was awful. Like eating Reese’s Pieces.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups - Awesome
Reese’s PB Eggs / PB Trees / whatever - Awesome.
Reese’s Pieces - no
But Obviously there are people that like them. That’s O.K.
Out of Afrkca
If 'Fury' was a World of Tanks battle.
Add my vote to ‘Titanic’ as well.
And while we’re at it, I wasn’t a fan of Avatar either, especially because the plot could have been so much BETTER while still keeping the visuals. I’m not even a scriptwriter and I could have made a more compelling plot than THAT, mostly by adding more moral grey areas and heroes and villains on both sides of the conflict instead of ‘RRR, HUMANS BAD.’
And that’s the worst part; it could have been a great movie with great visuals too, but instead it went whole-hog on the visuals and threw in a thoroughly lame plot.
ET was fun for older kids. We took out 4 and 5 year olds and they got scared.
>Spoiler Alert<
Couldn't disagree more. Look at the list of the top 20 films of the 2010's again. Where is the graphic sex, drugs, or unspeakable language in those movies?
Around half of them have some violence, granted, but it's quite sanitized. Hardly "horrific".
Frank Booth is one of the best film villains ever.
Depending upon your age, you may or may not actually like “THE LORDS OF FLATBUSH”, which Stallone is in.
I don’t see the problem.
LOL.
THANK YOU!
Any Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings movie.
A friend and I walked out of O Brother, Where Art Thou? because we thought they were making fun of Southerners and because they were machine-gunning a herd of cows and calling it comedy.
Add to that:
Midway
A Bridge Too Far
Pearl Harbor (I'm not sure if Pearl was ever a hit but it sure was insipid)
