Cool, but “hoping it will help the countrys efforts to revive its ailing tourism sector.”
Sorry, but seeing some great, newly discovered tombs isn’t enough of an attraction to risk losing my head over.
New Kingdom?

Mind you, this is some of the stuff the previous government planned to destroy, because it was pre-Islamic. I suspect one of the reasons the previous government fell is because the president put a friend in charge of antiquities who had made a career out of preaching that all antiquities had to be destroyed. The Egyptians may be Muslim, but they aren’t idiots. Even the people on the street knew that without tourism they would forever remain a poor nation. Below is some background on this from 2012.

My son just returned from a 6 week backpacking thru Egypt and Lebanon. He did have a few problems when he was picked up by Egyptian police and questioned about why he was traveling alone thru towns off the beaten tourist track. At one point they put him on the next train out of town, but when he got off at the next town, the police there were waiting for him. But, for the most part his trip thru Egypt which was 4 weeks long, passed peacefully, and he saw lots of historic sites, and took about 3,000 pictures.
During his two weeks in Lebanon, he found it to be relatively peaceful, and was surprised to see Christian churches broadcasting Christian hymns right across the street from the Hezbollah Headquarters in Sidon. He was confronted by two Hezbollah guards when he was taking a picture of a mosque in Beirut. He also spent a few days in the Chatilla Palestinian refugee camp in Beirut, and heard automatic weapons fire about a block from the hostel he was staying in.
All in all, he found both places extremely interesting, and much more peaceful than he thought that they would be.

That sounds like an exciting trip. Was he traveling solo? You must have been a nervous wreck, though. You should post some of photos on FR. People would love to hear about his trip.
I started my career in field service engineering in power plants and, after three years in the western US, went international for two years. I was in quite a few hot-spot countries (China two weeks after Mao died; Chile a couple years after Allende; the Phillipines near the Marxists and Islamists in Mindanao) which scared my folks to death. Like your son found, I discovered things were nowhere near as bad as the US press had made them out to be. But it only takes a second to get snatched and held captive or get murdered. But, being young and carefree, it was a heck of an experience.
He went solo, his only luggage was a 10 lb backpack. Yes, my wife and I were nervous, the whole time he was gone. He said that the hardest part of the trip in Egypt was the language barrier was worse than he thought it would be. He had backpacked thru India, Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos a few years ago, over a 6 month period, and could get along quiet well not knowing the local languages. But, in Egypt, few people spoke English. In Lebanon, English was more widely spoken, even if it was rather limited. He was told to avoid certain areas of Lebanon that have large Syrian refugee concentrations, because of a high level of crime, mainly drug dealing.
as opposed to “Old Kingdom” ......
or Middle Kingdom
The Ptolemaic Kingdom 305 BC to 30 BC
Third Integrum: 1544 BC to 305 BC (dark period historically chaos reigned)
New Kingdom: 1570 BC and 1544 BC.
Second Integrum: 1800 BC to 1570 BC (dark period historically chaos reigned)
Middle Kingdom: 2050 BC and 1800 BC
First Integrum: 2181 BC to 2050 BC (dark period historically chaos reigned)
Old Kingdom: (2686 BC by some counts) 2613 BC and 2181 BC
Pre-Dynastic Period: 3100 BC to 2613 BC
Earlier Egyptian Periods:
Neolithic 11,000 BC
Mesolithic 20,000 BC
Late Paleolithic 40,000 BC
That's a hoot. I think tourists would rather value trips where they aren't subject to being gunned down, blown up or beheaded.
HAHAHA love the fake Hollywood stuff - but actually the real stuff could be far better and more interesting, if the Egyptian authorities ever allow it, which, as long as Lerner and Co run the show, will never happen.
Golly! How exiting...where else can you go where the locals shoot busloads full of tourists?
Betting recent days’ corpses won’t last nearly as long.

And where Orthodox Christians are slaughtered in their pews....methinks Egypt wants its tourists back, LOL.
