Researchers at CanCog Technologies, a private institution in Toronto that studies behavior and aging in companion animals, have tested dogs and cats on the same tasks, using cats that show the same level of interest in food rewards as the dogs. They found that cats make more errors than dogs and require more trials to learn the same tasks.

I thought I had the only dog that did that! I always have to move his tail from in front of my face before I fall asleep. Havanese.
Cats are smarter. They can train big hairless monkeys to serve them with blind loyalty.
That’s why I have always had dogs. Dogs are good working partners. Cats are manipulative feline overlords.
How much money did the Canadian govt. contribute to this research?
We know the earth is not flat because if it was then the cats would have knocked everything over the edge by now.
I fear that you’re absolutely right. But if they’re giving robots citizenship in Saudi Arabia, how long before we can start a movement for our smarter four-footed friends? We could teach them to bark and wag their tails at pictures of Trump, and growl at Hillary. Then explain they need our help in the voting booth because they’re thumb-handicapped.
cats are much smarter
dogs are smart and better companions
and will do lots of services for us too
but cats are so smart they do NOTHING for us
and yet we buy them turkey, tunafish, chickens, everything
hoping they will show some appreciation
(which is rather like waiting for Godot)
cats are smarter because they get from us everything we give our dogs, without having to beg or grovel or fetch or work for any of it
One of the most wonderful things I remember reading. Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
That’s in competition for Best Of!
And they have heart attacks at the sight of a cucumber.
Ok, you have my curiosity. Is there some cat taunting act with cucumbers that I am not aware of? I am not a cat person myself, but I have worn out many batteries making my friends cats turn circles until they collapse from dizziness by chasing the trusty laser pen.
This is really like asking - whose smarter: men or women?
It depends on how you define it. Which one scores higher on most IQ tests? - men. Which gets over on the other more often? - definitely women.
Dogs are generally all about pleasing their masters. Cats are generally all about pleasing themselves. But just because dogs perform better at obedience tests doesn’t mean they are smarter. It just means cats don’t give a crap about your obedience tests. So who, then, is smarter?
Set a cucumber on the floor behind a cat while it’s eating. Make sure cat doesn’t see you set it down.
Now wait until cat is done eating. They Freak out
They both are equally smart in that neither one wants to be the other.
smart / smarter needs FIRST to be defined .... or you’re all gonn’a go off half cocked like republicans and democrats arguing about hillary
Very sensible. Want to take a run at it?
FTA:
Researchers found that dogs possess around 530 million cortical neurons, while cats only have around 250 million.
The latest study discovered that dogs are male and cats are female.
I state again ...
smart / smarter must FIRST be defined.
Nope ... I have a six year old Lab absolutely in love with us and we with him ... smart is not part of the equation.
