In wake of Weinstein, men wonder if hugging women still OK

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Steve Wyard thought he knew what sexual harassment looked like: a put-out-or-lose-your-job overture. Now he's not so sure.

"Have we gotten to the point now where men can't say, 'That's a nice dress' or 'Did you do something with your hair?'" says the veteran sales associate for a Los Angeles company. "The potential problem is you can't even feel safe saying, 'Good morning' anymore."

But he says his wife, the CEO at a health maintenance organization, got a complaint from a woman just last month who believed a fellow employee was getting too personal. "It turned out the guy thought he was just saying, 'What did you do over the weekend?'" Wyard recalls his wife telling him.

.
Let’s face facts: Its usually the women that initiate the physical stuff.

Beta males have no masculine pride, so it’s probably happening right now.

I got a little change in my pocket going jing-a-lang-a-ling
Want to call you on the telephone, baby - I give you a ring
But, each time we talk I get the same old thing:
Always, “No huggy, no kissy, until I get a Wedding Ring”

My honey, my baby, don’t put my love upon no shelf
She said, “Don’t hand me no lines, and keep your hands to yourself”

Cruel baby, baby, baby, why you want to treat me this way?
You know, I’m still your lover boy - I still feel the same way
That’s when she told me a story ‘bout free milk and a cow
And said, “No huggy, no kissy, until I get a Wedding Vow”

My honey, my baby, don’t put my love upon no shelf
She said, “Don’t hand me no lines, and keep your hands to yourself”

See, I wanted her real bad, and I was about to give in
And that’s when she started talkin’ about true love, started talkin’ about Sin
I said, “Honey, I live with you for the rest of my life”
She said, “No huggy, no kissy, until you make me your wife”

My honey, my baby, don’t put my love upon no shelf
She said, “Don’t hand me no lines, and keep your hands to yourself”

“How about “Your hair looks nice?””

Naaa... ignore it. Time to fight back. Think they hate attention? Wait and see how they handle indifference.
Until this crap stops, they should be utterly avoided in anything except a professional context. “do you have the reports?”, “did you remember the teleconference at 1pm?”, etc.

Until this changes, it isn’t worth the risk.

Linus said, after Charlie Brown lost another ball game, “You know how it is. You win some and you lose some”:

Charlie: “Yeah, wouldn’t it be nice?”

I don’t give women at my work the time of day. To much danger in even talking with them.

I usually work alone so I have had to sexually harass myself many times just so I can be part of the #metoo movement.

Because they can. There is a double standard when it comes to who can touch who. I get touched by my female coworkers often. It’s all innocent enough. But, I won’t do likewise.

Remember the Battle of the Sexes?

Now, it’s just “hunker down, mate.”

i am not liberal and don’t want any man hugging me that is not my husband or a son in law. No thanks.

100% of the time, it is women in the workplace who hug me. I have no issue with it. I would never of course initiate that with a woman co-worker and your response shows why that is a bad idea.

No more hugs, no more compliments, no more special assistance when finances may be a little tight, no more special treatment when down on their luck.

How about “Your hair looks nice?”

Not in the M-F context unless you are really good friends with her. Plus, that is just dangerous in any context. Unless she just had her hair done, she may think, well, how did he think I looked yesterday?

Absolutely.

No ‘complements’. Nothing. Business talk and only that.

Everything else is dangerous...................

“The safest is NO hugs period...............”

While I agree with you, when somebody is on the edge of going to pieces, it may be the only safety mechanism left.
