LA Times ^ | 12/1/17 | Maura Dolan

A person convicted of a felony for stealing a car may have that conviction reduced to a misdemeanor if the vehicle was worth no more than $950, the California Supreme Court decided unanimously Thursday.

The decision came in a case interpreting Proposition 47, a 2014 ballot measure that reduced felonies for certain drug and theft crimes to misdemeanors.

I listen to old time radio programs. Dragnet was a big one, before the 60’s TV show. In the 1950’s stealing a car in California was punishable by 5 to 10 years in prison, according to the blurb at the end of every episode outlining the penalties.

Serious deterrent I’d say. Very very sad what has happened to California, was once a solid, reliably conservative and fiscally responsible state.

Councilwoman Cindy Bass....wonder how much money she received in her offshore bank acct from a major store outlet wanting to put those small shops out of business?

Or does she just want the Koreans killed for her precious lifetime voter base? Or both?

It’s not fair that some stores can be robbed while other cannot.

This makes them even, so everybody’s equal.

In the 1950’s stealing a car in California was punishable by 5 to 10 years in prison,

Those were the good ol' days. Now the prisons are over crowded & the stupid voters (not me) just passed a proposition to minimize many crimes & let prisoners out. Criminals are coming from across the country (they have interviewed several) to perpetrate crimes here.

By the way, I spent many nights listening o crime shows on the radio.

Dragnet, The Shadow, Mystery Theater.... They were great.

all cars are worth at least 1,000 dollars if they are drivable because that is what the state is willing to pay to take them off the road.

So, basically, stealing from a poor person is OK in California.

I would think stealing from someone who has to drive a crappy car hurts the victim worse than someone who drives a Porsche, but that’s just me.

Stealing a car should be a hanging offense.

Does this mean that if two guys get together and each steal half a car valued under $1900 it’s a misdemeanor, as long as it’s two halves of the same car?

And once again, the poorest of the so-called proletariat suffer the most from their communistic redistribution:

A car is first and foremost a means of transportation. If a poor person can only afford a clunker, and must have it to keep his job, then the theft of that article is more, not less, devastating than the theft of a higher-valued car that belongs to someone with more money and another car.

A to B travel is the same for a junker as for a limo.

So in other words, it doesn’t matter if they steal from the poor?

So HIV is not a felony anymore, they look out for Illegals at the expense of citizens, and now this, I think I will forget about moving into California, or even going on vacation there.

They’re all at the link below. And since the shows are no longer under copyright protection, they are free (and legal) to download.

Legalize crime. Problem solved.

Based on the Steinle case, I think San Francisco already has!
