Stanford University researcher used a computer algorithm to determined whether a neighborhood leaned to the left or right by looking at vehicles in 50 millions of images from Google Street View in 200 American cities.
When sedans outnumbered pickup trucks, there was an 88 percent chance the city would vote Democratic.
In areas with more pickup trucks, the odds switched to 82 percent in favor of Republicans, the researchers concluded.

Nice little truck.
My boss had a 72 98 when I worked in a filling station. I loved driving it. They haven’t made Olds for quite some time.
Yes, absolutely. The MB is bad enough, but I recommend you ship me the Corvette immediately.
I have a roomy shop for safekeeping and neighbors who know I'm a gun-toting, right-wing lunatic, thus will wonder if I'm finally softening up or if I've just gone completely berserk.
What an asinine study. Who paid for it?
Shock! People who own pickups rely on themselves to get stuff done...
We actually own 2 Prius’s because we are conservative. Pay for themselves in gas. We also have a BMW and a Dodge charger for weekend driving.
Not so much.

Buicks. The two classes of people that drive them are old people and urban blacks. You can usually tell which is which if the car is maintained or not.
2016 BMW X3 - a great small SUV. I must have voted for Hitler.
I will not buy a car made by Ford or GM, but I am quite happy to buy cars made by foreign manufacturers in the USA. It’s not the workers, its the unions and the management.
“What my car shows is that I do not support the UAW. I refuse to buy any vehicle where the workers are members of the Mafia.”
My last UAW car was over 30 years ago...and I have absolutely no intention of buying one again.
As far as I can tell, the UAW both hates their companies and hates the country...similar to the NFL kneelers and their enablers.
(and no, I’m not talking about EVERY UAW person, there is probably one or two gun owners who like Trump there, but they keep electing the same types of leaders - so I will continue to NEVER buy their cars)
Or maybe it was the best deal for what you needed.
In 1981, the US pushed Japan into a VER (voluntary export restriction) under intense pressure from GM and the UAW. As soon as the restrictions were in place, GM gave their executives massive bonuses and jacked up the price of cars.
I swore then I would never buy another GM product and 35 years later, I still have not.
What the article implies is that if you ‘needed’ a pickup rather than a sedan, there’s an 82% chance you voted GOP.
1979 Buick station wagon
1976 Chevrolet 1 ton dually truck
Combined mileage over 563,000
How do I vote???
Subaru, huh? (Don't have to look to make that correlation!)
big truck
large car
There’s an 82% chance you vote GOP.
