Arby’s Is Buying Buffalo Wild Wings for $2.9 Billion
KTLA ^

Posted on 11/28/2017 5:30:25 AM PST by BenLurkin

The deal follows a trend of other mergers among restaurant chains.

Earlier this month, Au Bon Pain agreed to be bought by Panera, which itself was bought earlier this year by JAB, the owner of Krispy Kreme and Peet’s Coffee.

In addition, Burger King parent Restaurant Brands bagged Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen earlier this year, and Olive Garden owner Darden bought Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen.

i hate BWW. food is not great and it is super loud. I also do not like being bothered by the employees that want to speak with you about loyalty cards, ect while you’re trying to eat.

BWW is one of very few restaurant chains that posts its restaurants NO GUNS. I’ve never been in one, and won’t be until those signs go down.

Bigger picture, most chain restaurants are suffering, and this is probably market consolidation. The demand is for local restaurants with more unique menus and eating experiences.

I agree with your anecdotal experience regarding chain restaurants. They’re suffering. More from folks turning their nose up at them than anything. The trend is toward local restaurants with more unique dishes and experiences. And it makes sense. The chain restaurants are expensive, and the food at most of them is sort of meh. Why would people choose to eat there when there are local restaurants with better, more interesting food?

On the fast food end, the BKs, Mcdonalds, etc. are competing with supermarkets. Its easier and frankly cheaper to pop into a supermarket for some ready made sushi than it is to get a death burger served slow.

Politics is a scam and we’re suckers for playing.

Arby’s new onion rings are actually fantastic.

Big, fresh, crisp, and made of whole onion rings. (not processed onion paste formed into a ring, like BK)

I was actually considering them for lunch today even before coming across this thread.

Arby’s is a heavy donor to 100% Dem candidates.

Are you sure that is still the case? At one time that was absolutely true. Then Wendy's started tanking after Dave Thomas died. Arby's bought them, and found that the Wendy's stores were so profitable they decided to keep them and spin-off Arby's to new owners. So the old Arby's is now Wendy's and the new Arby's is ?????

We’re not much into Italian food but...we have a small Mexican restaurant not too far that has $1 street tacos all day on Wednesdays. They’re excellent. We have a small Chinese restaurant that we can eat at for $11 any day and take half of it home. On Thursdays Sonic has 2 for 1 boneless wings. Love their Garlic Parmesan wings. I keep finding bargains like that all around us. We only eat out 1 day a week but doesn’t cost us much at all for good food.

As I said Arby’s has been improving its brand steadily over the last few years.... It’s never going to be number one, but honestly its been improving its quality and options and overall brand image steadily for quite a few years now.

If you can find one that actually serves breakfast, they without question have the best croussant’s among fast food chains, and always has.. sadly though, breakfast is not system wide... so finding one that serves breakfast can be a challenge.

I forgot about that. Thanks for the update.

McDonald's gives to both parties. However, Joan Kroc was a HUGE financial supporter of fetal experimentation. McDonalds corporate does not do that right now as far as I know.

There are bargains to be had, and smaller restaurants have somewhat more control over their overhead. The chains are at something of a disadvantage when people are looking for more interesting food on one hand, and bargains on the other.

Politics is a scam and we’re suckers for playing.

Went to Buffalo Wings 3 times in Fairbanks Alaska. Have yet to eat their food. The lines were long and the atmosphere was chaotically noisy.

Found better food elsewhere every time.

I’ve had the same experience at Sonic Drive In. Been there twice, have yet to have somebody come out to the car to take the order...Bye Bye, Sonic, hello In-n-Out!

Neither has a store close enough to home for me to venture an opinion on their quality.

because the owners can’t find a member of the “Millennial” generation they can count on to show up and work.

Exactly. I no longer deal w/ chains, as every other time I ever went to one the server or clerk would be an uncaring, selfish brat who couldn't care less for the job much less me, the client. I guess that was on the days they bothered to show up for work.

Our schools have taught them entitlement and no work ethic.

" Arby’s food=grossness"

I remember when the fast food roast beef sandwich restaurants started in the late 60s. Even at Arby's, you'd see a REAL hunk of roast beef heating in a disply case.....none of that coagulated meat soup crap they sell today!

I was at arby’s last week they had the big roast and it looked hot. They then sliced my sammy roast beef on the slicer. Could see them doing it right after I ordered. I noticed it right away. Hadn’t been in years but it was damn good with their horsey sauce.
