Well, who would have thought that putting out a bad product and spitting on the American flag would be bad for ratings. The National Football League has seen its week eleven ratings and they’re not good: one million fewer viewers from last year. The NY Post reported that the ongoing battle between Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been the center of NFL coverage. Goodell has put up insane contract demands of a $50 million salary, along with free flights, and health care for his family—for life. This coming from a man who has failed miserably to handle the national anthem protests that has engulfed the league in controversy:
The TV audience for NFL games steepened its slide in Week 11, losing 1 million viewers versus last year’s season-to-date average.
The 6.3 percent slump — worsening from comparable declines of 5.6 to 5.7 percent during the previous three weeks — plagued a week whose off-the-field drama made gridiron tackling seem almost tame by comparison.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones remained the major distraction by continuing to battle with fellow team owners and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Jones brought even more tension to Week 11 when video footage surfaced late last week of the football tycoon making a racially charged remark at a 2013 wedding party.
President Donald Trump added to the off-field antics with a tweet calling for the suspension of the Oakland Raiders’ Marshawn Lynch for not standing for the national anthem during a game played in Mexico City.
Most thought Donald Trump picked a cultural battle he couldn't win when he trashed NFL players who took a knee during the Star-Spangled Banner back in September. Well, that just wasn’t the case, as the overwhelming majority thought taking a knee during the anthem was unpatriotic and disrespectful. Also, former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, not Trump, fired the first salvo. Kaepernick spent Thanksgiving celebrating “Unthanksgiving” at Alcatraz.
Today, I was on Alcatraz Island at the Indigenous People’s Sunrise Gathering, in solidarity with those celebrating their culture and paying respects to those that participated in the 19 month occupation of Alcatraz in an effort to force ???? to honor the Treaty of Fort Laramie. pic.twitter.com/KdNtY3dp72— Colin Kaepernick (@Kaepernick7) November 24, 2017
So would I, but very few high school football games are on on Sunday morning. Personally, I find my grandson’s Midget League games more entertaining.
They can spin it however they want. Jerry Jones is not the problem — he’s the cure. But, the rest of the owners want to stay on the S.S. Goodell and go down with the ship.
I hate to break it to you but your score for the Grey Cup is a bit premature. The Toronto Argonauts won 27-24 on a late field goal. Arrrrrrrgoes!!!
This year, a broadcast of Heidi will defeat the Superbowl.
Same here..don’t miss it.
For what it is worth, my wife and I went to the Browns at Bengals game today because we bought the tickets on August 4th. There were no kneelers during the National Anthem. There was a fly over, Armed Forces Color Guard, and a military brass band played the National Anthem. As the Bengals were individually introduced through the PA system and ran onto the field from the locker room, the Bengal player was accompanied by an Army soldier who was also individually introduced on the PA system. This was also shown on the big screens. I have pictures and am trying to figure out how to post them on a reply to the thread. I thought it was a first class move and shed extra tears of pride during the National Anthem.
Not so sure about that. Saw a poodle kneeling for the anthem last weekend. 8>)
Unfortunately!
I watched a couple of old Bowery Boys movies
If that happens, I hope Minnesota has a cold snap with real air temperatures dropping to -20F.
Condi Rice, the same establishment weasel who openly supported Neel Kashkari?
Condi backed Kashkari for California governor while fully aware of his support for gay marriage, amnesty for illegals, abortion, man-made climate change, and the fact that he voted for Obama twice.
She, like Romney and the rest of GOPe, strongly opposed the conservative tea party choice in the primary and insisted on getting their fellow travelling fake Republican.
Of course, considering what the NFL has become, Condi would fit right in. She could even hire her pal Neel Kashkari as her assistant.
I’ve gone through the book of Job instead of football. Far better use of time, and I feel better.
No, just the right rear. His right front paw was raised above his head. 8>)
“It seems there would be numerous candidates to a far better job at far less expense.
Condolezza Rice comes to mind...”
I think Goodell would be perfectly happy with that PLUS his severance. Who wants to live and work with a migraine that repeats EVERY week?
That salute sounds suspicious. A Vichy French poodle?
I was thinking the same think....she'd probably do it better and for less.
It’s too late for the NFL to try these type antics to try to win me back - they’ve already shown their true colors...
The correct response to this mess should be:
If any player does not show proper respect for the U.S. flag and anthem, that team automatically forfeits the game. The referee shall inform the coach of the forfeit and the owner of the team shall reimburse ticket holders.
Same here; I have not watched thug ball this year and I don’t miss it one bit.
Go Sooners!
