On November 19th, 2017, the infamous Manson family cult leader Charles Manson died at the age of 83. While discussing the Manson Family provokes flashbacks to the gruesome murders in August 1969 by Manson’s followers, very few people examine the backstory which leads to these types of tragedies. You cannot understand Charles Manson as an adult without understanding what happened to him in his childhood. What is the truth about Charles Manson?

I doubt that Manson “discovered” LSD through his connection to the Beach Boys.
SF was awash with LSD (which was ‘legal’ then and pharmaceutical industry produced) when Manson was living there before heading down to LA.
And Timothy Leary was among those experimenting on prisoners with LSD in the early 60s.

You get spanking confused with beatings. I haven’t read this story but still remember my mother’s shock at Manson’s childhood. Still, many children have terrible childhoods and don’t go on to murder defenseless pregnant young women...
Well, Jones was some looker! I’m sure women threw themselves at him. I still admire his beauty in Ryan’s Daughter. Did you know he’s dubbed in the film? He couldn’t do the British accent so Lean had his voice replaced. Sarah Miles - never my favorite either, Chris. (He was married to Susan Strasberg, btw.)

On the list of all the things Manson compulsively blabbed about -- "when I first dropped acid" -- seems to be conspicuously absent.
It was called the Weather Underground not the Weathermen Underground, Manson was never part of it and her name is Dohrn not Dorden.
