On November 19th, 2017, the infamous Manson family cult leader Charles Manson died at the age of 83. While discussing the Manson Family provokes flashbacks to the gruesome murders in August 1969 by Manson’s followers, very few people examine the backstory which leads to these types of tragedies. You cannot understand Charles Manson as an adult without understanding what happened to him in his childhood. What is the truth about Charles Manson?

I don’t know his childhood history. He may have been screwed up as a kid. Does that excuse him as an adult gaining control over others, and ordering them to do what took place?
I’m not immune to the idea he was mentally deranged. None the less, for what he did, he needed to be locked up for the rest of his life. This guy could not have functioned on the street.
I think he should have been given the death penalty. He was sentenced to it, but when the death penalty was done away with temporarily, his death sentence was commuted to life with the possibility of parole.
For the life of me, I never fully understood that.
Life, at least it was something firm. Possibility of parole? Seriously?

Manson should have been executed 40 years ago. He deserved to die.
But hoping he is in hell is HATE. And hating will put YOU in hell.
But I think the same was true for Richard Pryor and he didn’t end up being a vicious murderer.

I never cared to find out much about Manson, just plain evil did it for me.
I don't know if it is exactly true, but Chrostopher Jones (Major Doryan in Ryan's Daughter) had an affair with Sharon when she was married to Polanski and just a few weeks pregnant. Roman Polanski was having an affair with some woman in England. Christopher Jones took up with Olivia Hussey and she accompanied him to the set of Ryan's Daughter in Dingle Peninsula, Ireland (westernmost tip, second southernmost county which I forget the name of).
It was interesting to read about the filming of the movie, am a great fan of David Lean. Some of the landmarks are still there but the school house is falling down, large opening in one side. The main street where the pub was and lined on both sides with cottages and the church (maybe they were built as part of the set) were all cleared clean away, leaving only the cobblestone street as evidence that people ever inhabited it. The most amazing thing was that the forest scene with the bluebells where they had their first tryst was inside in the Convention or Community Center, felt cheated to see that.
And Jones didn't like Sarah Miles. It is painful to read about the casual and often serial immorality of Hollywood stars.

You say he deserved to die 40 years ago. Presuming you are older than 40, didn’t you deserve to die then also? If not please explain how you and Manson were different then in terms of deserving to die?
