Those 10” parasites they pulled out of his intestines should be kept and used for propaganda purposes - a brief and concise representation of the DPRK.

Wow! ...Some brave S.Koreans pulling the guy to safety....I’m just amazed Tiger....

Looks like he was under fire when he slowed down at that big white building...you can see the guy there running after him briefly and then he really stepped on the gas.....my gosh!!

Looked like he got confused where to go when he got up there close....was the vehicle stuck?

It’s just stunning to see live fire and these soldiers in actual operation......I’m just over whelmed too actually see
this soldier run for freedom under fire by his own men!

Cannot thank you enough for posting this.....truly...

Ah the left’s wet dream. Install dear leader Barack Obama and pay homage to him & his family 24/7. Escaping would be even harder, as the only place to really run to would be Canada.

Yes, it looks like he ran through the checkpoint.
His vehicle's wheel was stuck in a ditch.

I read where he had been shot in the shoulder and the elbow - so looks like he’ll survive.

I was surprised on how he was able to drive so far - he was posted at the border, so I guess it was the DMZ that he drove through???

With all the norks running and then standing around I wonder if anyone of them asked “Hey - how come the defector is the only one that gets a vehicle!?”

He was also badly hit in the gut. He is alive thanks to two intensive surgeries. Otherwise, he would have been dead. He sustained extensive intestinal damage. Part of his lung was also damaged. At one point, he was suffering from pneumonia and blood poisoning on top of these wounds.

This was in the JSA (Joint Security Area) It is the only place where North and South Korean troops stand face to face. Basically all NK troops posted there have a standing order to shoot anyone who tries to defect. Only the most loyal of all troops are allowed to be posted in the JSA, which makes this all the more rare.

Thanks! Can you post a link to the article? I thought it odd that if he only had a shoulder and elbow wound, he looked almost dead laying against that wall. Thank goodness he survived and they were able to get to him so quickly.

I've been trying to get further informaation on this....I understand now since this happened, a new rule of engagement has been issued that the JSA is to fire at the NK soldiers trying to kill any defectors crossing the border.

VERY brave man to pull this off...The guy is the epitome of the statement..."Live free or die" ...he literally escaped James Bond Golden.Eye style through a hail of gunfire with guys shooting at him literally yards behind him in his final sprint.

Path of the NK defector on Nov 13, 2017...

His pelvis was fractured too..not to mention the gun wounds as they dragged him to safety.....coupled with his overall bad health etc....God is good! He brought him through it.
Though I understand the treatment for the parasites etc is pretty extensive and grueling in itself.

They said he’s a Staff sergeant in his early 20s

NK soldier suffering from pneumonia and blood poisoning: report

By Yeo Jun-suk

Published : Nov 20, 2017 - 15:58 Updated : Nov 21, 2017 - 16:56

The North Korean soldier who dashed across the border to defect is suffering from life-threatening lung and liver infections which are complicating his recovery from multiple gunshot wounds, a local newspaper said Monday

According to a report from the Donga Ilbo, the solider remains in a critical condition, with blood poisoning, pneumonia and Hepatitis B in addition to his injuries. He has undergone two surgeries so far for gunshot-wounds after being shot five times by North Korean soldiers.

Citing medical officials at the hospital treating the solider, the newspaper reported that the patient was “struggling” to recover from the critical injuries. His second surgery was last Thursday.

“His liver doesn’t work well and he has been diagnosed with pneumonia and Hepatitis B. He even has blood poisoning. … He is in trouble,” the report quoted an official from Ajou University Medical Center as saying.

The pneumonia is suspected to stem from gunshot injuries to his lung, while blood poisoning is associated with the massive blood infusion during the surgery and secondary infections from his abdomen wounds, the official added.

When the solider was transported to the hospital, he appeared to be “untreatable” because his blood pressure had dropped to 70 mmHg, according to the official. He received a transfusion of O-type blood as there was no time to figure out his blood type. Some 16 liters of blood has been used, it added.

When he was found under a pile of leaves south of the border inside the Joint Security Area, he was bloodied from gunshots to his shoulder, elbow and abdomen. He was rescued by South Korean soldiers and transported to the hospital.

“We are paying extra care to prevent complications from feces and parasites,” Doctor Lee Cook-jong, who treated the solider, said after his second surgery on Thursday. “We are not in a position to be sure.”

The surgery has also highlighted the dire medical conditions in North Korea as the wounded soldier was found to carry dozens of parasitic worms and suffer from Hepatitis B -- a common disease in the North.

Hepatitis B is an infectious disease that affects the liver. The virus is transmitted by exposure to infected blood or body fluids. It can lead to serious complications such as liver cancer.

According to a report from the Korea Centers for Disease Control & Prevention in 2014, North Korean defectors residing in South Korea were found to be much more likely to have Hepatitis B and tuberculosis than South Korean citizens.

Among the 1,588 defectors responding to the survey, 12.4 percent of male defectors and 10.4 percent of female defectors had Hepatitis B. The number was about three times as much as the rate among South Koreans.

The escaped soldier’s specific identity and motive for defection have not been revealed. South Korea’s top spy agency said last week that he was a 20-something noncommissioned officer serving at the Joint Security Area.

I think the credit goes to:

1) U.S. Medevac crews who stabilized him while in transit to a hospital

2) S. Korean medical team who performed extensive operations to save his life, despite multitude of obstacles they had to deal with.

Being said now that the Nk soldier crossing the mdl line in chase actually wanted to escape as well but turned back because he knew the other nk soldiers were better prepared to shoot him this time.

BTW the investigation now is saying N.Korea broke the Armistice agreement by firing over the line and crossing the line...the UNC notified N.Korea Wed......Link report is short but quite interesting
