The blackout comes amid a contentious fee dispute between satellite TV provider Dish Network and CBS Corp., which owns the television stations.
When cable TV first started rolling, the OTA networks did not ask for retransmission fees. The only ones who got fees were the premium ad free channels ... HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Pay-per-view.
As far as I know, the big four show even MORE ads than they did in that era (early '70s), and they have cheaped out on most shows' production costs, and the ones with high production costs still make it up in reruns/syndication (which makes up for declining first-run viewership). What a racket. It cannot last.

I am very upset. Why does the customer always have to suffer in these situations? asked Jerry Horn, a Dish customer in Narrowsburg, N.Y. We pay the bills.
Keep us connected during contract disputes! Apparently Jerry doesn't know how this works, the customer doesn't me diddly, and as to pay the bills, you will Jerry and how!
This is why we dumped Dish and all the others, I am fortunate to be able to receive over the air and everything else is ala cart through Roku.

CBS and my cable company got into it right before the NFL playoffs. I bought an aerial. The funny part was 2 days after they shut off CBS the bills came out and there was a price hike that was more than what they were arguing with CBS over. They got a lot of hate mail, and caved. Gave the aerial to charity.

Why would we want to watch players who despise America, it’s patriotic symbols, play games making millions of dollars and complain that the rest of us aren’t doing our part. NO... NFL for me this season.
