Like you say, seems like a $20 digital antenna would solve this issue.

Also, these folks need to cut the cord.

Not sure about the new Dish equipment but the older receivers had a small wire external antenna to capture over the air signal. Additionally, the actual dish on the roof acts as an external over the air antenna. I was able to pull in signals from over 40 miles using that setup.

Yep - we live a bit away from local transmitters but an old antenna (circa 1986) will pull in local network channels.

I left it up as an emergency backup because satellite can be affected by weather at the worst times....

If the complainers still support the NFL - good on the Dish problems...
