Was Planet of the Apes trying to make a point?

Posted on 11/20/2017 10:01:15 AM PST by MNDude

I just watched the most recent Planet of the Apes movie. There was one scene where all of the benevolent Apes or captured in locked into cages by an evil white man in the military. The members of this evil non-diverse Army stood and faced the American flag as the Star Spangled Banner played. Shortly after the American national anthem was played, soldiers began to brutally whip the backs of the Apes forcing them to build a large wall. I was wondering if there was some symbolism or messaging in that entire scene.

I saw an interview with Charlton Heston talking about the filming of Planet of the Apes.
Because it took several hours to apply make-up and prosthetics to the actors playing the apes, they would leave it on when they broke for lunch.
Over time, Heston noticed that the actors playing gorillas would sit with others playing gorillas, orangutans with other orangutans etc....regardless of the actors status.

Haven’t seen the movie, but based on your description it sounds like the message is that would be a good way of getting the wall built. And putting some inner city thugs to work while doing so.

Wow. All of that insight from just watching the trailers?

Impressive.

I've seen all of the Planet of the Apes movies, a couple more than once.

And I have no idea what you're talking about.

***the do-gooders in Hollywood decided to portray black Americans as a kind of ape or monkey.***

And in the ORIGINAL Planet of the Apes with Charlton Heston, the black astronaut with them is killed, stuffed and mounted in a museum, by the apes.

I keep laughing at the most inappropriate places.

A friend of mine worked in the movie distribution business and was able to get tickets to movie theater previews, many of which I accompanied him to. One such movie was My Girl.

Behind us sat two slightly elderly women who commented continuously throughout the entire movie. Worse yet, their remarks were childish, driveling twaddle. I became incensed at their rude behavior, but held my tongue and held in my anger until at the poignant scene where the children climbed up into a magnificent willow tree, one of the women commented, "Oh wow, look at the leaves!" at which point the absurdity of the comment fused with the intensity of my anger and I broke into loud, uncontrollable laughter. After an embarrassingly long time, my laughter subsided, only to break out again several times during the remainder of the movie.

I was never invited to another preview.

In Disney’s Zootopia, the ‘government worker’ was a sloth..................

And that was a pretty accurate depiction!!!

It’s a Planet of the Apes movie, they’re ALL about race relations. And note he wasn’t actually in the military anymore, he’s a deserter leading a rag tag bunch of “true believers” by the time the movie starts. He’s got the toys and the training but not the chain of command, the American military comes to make him stop at the end.
