...For Godless, executive producers Casey Silver and Steven Soderbergh took Scott Franks screenplay, which was originally written as a film, and expanded it into a seven-part limited series for Netflix.
The series is a wild ride, an old-fashioned Western with a contemporary edge. It carries the sweep and breadth of a grand tale with the larger-than-life ornery characters you expect to find living and dying in that rugged, lonely land...
The entire series which plays like a seven-hour movie was directed by Scott Frank from his screenplay. He keeps the tension throughout without over-hyping scenes. Death is bad enough. Using natural light, the cinematography from Steven Meizler, who has filmed for Steven Spielberg and Steven Soderbergh, infuses the scenes with the unease of vulnerability...

It didn't take a thesaurus to interpret the F-word. According to wiki, the F-word was used 1.56 times per minute of footage.
The series opener used it 43 times in the first hour of the show.
My friends and I didn't say it that much when I was in junior high or even high school. It was just gratuitous and unnecessary. I'd love to watch the entire series, but only got three or so episodes in and just couldn't take it anymore.
By coincidence I watched two old western movies in a row last night on an ‘oldies’ channel, and most of the people in them were religious folks, often quoting the bible.
Now I’m not a religious guy, and enjoy the good ‘shoot-em-ups’, but I really enjoyed those ‘Godly’ western movies, and went to bed with a smile on my face from seeing decent people overcoming challenges and making the world a better place, through faith.
Y favorites are The Unforgivin and Lonesome Dove.
do you remember the names of those movies? I have Netflix and I am trying to only watch films and shows that leave smiles.
I love Lonesome Dove I watch it every time it is on tv. Maybe I’ll just buy the damn thing.
Yeah female gun slingers, right. I’ll pass.
I always like the Outlaw Jose Wales.

Lonesome Dove was one of the best western series ever.

The next town over is made up of guys who escaped Kevin Spacey.
Which is available starting today, IIRC!
Wife bought the CD for me. I can quote most of the dialog. I know two guys who had small roles.
The town of Fort Smith was filmed on Willie’s movie set. And the place where Jake was hung and the saloon where Jake joined the bad guys. I was in a movie that was filmed there.
Top five westerns:
1. High Noon
2. Good, Bad and the Ugly
3. Outlaw Josey Wales
4. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
5. Jeremiah Johnson
Deadwood was softcore porn with a Western wrapper. You didn’t miss a thing.
A highly popular writer of one hundred years ago was Zane Gray. His western novels were well researched and mostly without curses. His work falls a little oddly on modern ears, though, as he would write things like, “”Get off the horse,” he ejaculated.”
Some things may be worse than curse words to some folks, as in Gray’s first and major novel, “Riders of the Purple Sage,” in which...
“The two unite to fight the evil Elder Tull and Bishop Dyer. Morality is ambiguous in this novel, as outlaws are depicted as kind and churchmen revealed to be unbending and cruel.”

Sorry, no. They were on a new C-band satellite feed channel that has no published schedule yet. Old low budget ‘black and white’ and I couldn’t even put a name to any of the actors / actresses.
Really? I bought it and got to the part about the children but all the sex and stuff put me off.
I like Westerns a lot too!
I have a Vizio Smart TV but I have no idea on how to activate or subscribe to Netflix.........
