A painting by Italian Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci that depicts Jesus Christ holding an orb sold for a world record $450.3 million at Christies auction house in New York Wednesday night. The painting, called "Salvator Mundi," Italian for "Savior of the World," is one of fewer than 20 paintings by Leonardo known to exist and the only one in private hands. The buyer was not immediately identified. The highest price ever paid for a work of art at auction had been $179.4 million, for Picasso's "Women of Algiers (Version O)" in May 2015....

But it’s NOT a Stave.
Some interesting details here (as of just a couple of days ago no one seemed to expect this auction to break records):

Lol! Wouldn't bother me, if I actually wanted one. :)
An object is worth what someone will pay for it. The buyer clearly wanted a piece of human history, an utterly unique and famous work, and isn't merely interested in the viewing of the image itself. We all just got that for free by looking at the article. If you have an extra half-billion laying around, being the only person on earth with a daVinci painting isn't a bad bit of fame to purchase... and with almost 100% certainty, it will appreciate in value... which cannot be said for most investments.
And the Sand People will not allow any image of their Pedophile, or else they commit murder.
And yet none of them would be an accurate depiction of a middle-eastern Jew of the time period.
The historical Jesus of Nazareth would have looked nothing like the depictions of him art works.
I am actually more disturbed by the culture of godless oligarchy auctions like these expose. They draw attention to the currupt nature of the economic cultures of Russia, Saudi Arabia, and China.
These are not honorable men bearing the fruit of honest work, who contribute to the general good and betterment of their peoples.
Rather these cast of characters represent the very people who represent the worst of grotesque excesses of caricatured capitalism left unchecked by accountability to any higher moral law or virtue.
Hardly glorifying to Christ. I hope remaining paintings like these end up in museums for average people to enjoy, not even necessarily in one of the major cities like Paris/NYC, but smaller places.
That being said I am proud our society has produced billionaires like our very own President Trump. God bless America.
Not Only The bass and The Harley, but FRee Republic!
SOULMATES! :-)
It worked. Thank you!

Maybe there is another fool that will pay more but it would not be me!
I collect rare Bob Ross paintings.... : )
Exactly! Well said! :)
Wanted to re-phrase my wordy prior post. All I want to say is: it is sad these oligarchs from Russia et al. - have benefited so much from corruption in their countries and have this much cash to throw around. It ruins the auction spirit for me. That sacred painting is being exploited in my view.
