The US Air Force Academy has said racial slurs scrawled on dormitory doors of five black cadets were by one of the supposedly targeted students.
An inquiry into the September incident found that one of the cadets admitted to writing "go home" with an epithet on dorm doors, the school told US media.
The vandalism shook the campus and drew a stern rebuke from commanders. ...

I would maintain that committing a “false hate crime”, in an effort to frame another group, should be considered a “hate crime” on its own merit, and prosecuted as such.
Seems to me that he has admitted committing a racial hate crime and should be charged accordingly, along with extra counts for perpetuating a hoax, and very likely lying to investigators. He willfully terrorized minorities, regardless of his own race. 4 years incarceration, then dishonorable discharge sounds about right.
I find it difficult to remember any of these that weren't hoaxes.
BTW this guy wasn't a cadet. He was in Prep School, a program designed to take prior service enlisted and qualify them to become cadets. It is an academic boot camp that addresses deficiencies in core curriculum skills, usually math.

Not too much they could do the the guy for this infraction, if they were already going to terminate him for a prior one . . .

What clued them is was the fact that the racial slurs were misspelled.
This incident occurred at the Air Force Academy Prep School. The students attending there are considered “Cadet Candidates” and have not received an appointment to the Academy.

He's already gone. He was in some kind of trouble, I think academically, so he is on the street.
The Air Force could enforce his contract and make him serve as an enlisted troop but they never do because it would drop the moral of the enlisted force. Screw up so you get "punished" by having to be an enlisted troop. Not good.

Yes - I was falling down on my job of running the Fake Hate Crimes List. I was late in posting this. I am surprised that no one else did, in the meantime. The original story went up much faster.
They always cover up for these offenders.
