Enough, one hopes, that he never has a gold bar pinned on his collar.

He's already gone. He was in some kind of trouble, I think academically, so he is on the street.

The Air Force could enforce his contract and make him serve as an enlisted troop but they never do because it would drop the moral of the enlisted force. Screw up so you get "punished" by having to be an enlisted troop. Not good.
