Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls is threatening disorderly conduct charges against the owner of a white truck bearing a large "F--- TRUMP" sticker on the back window. The truck's sticker goes on to read "AND F--- YOU FOR VOTING FOR HIM," according to a photo posted Wednesday on Nehls' official Facebook page. Nehls said he's responding to calls from concerned residents in trying to identify the truck's owner. "I have received numerous calls regarding the offensive display on this truck as it is often seen along FM 359," Nehls said in his post. "If you know who owns this truck or it is yours, I would like to discuss it with you. Our Prosecutor has informed us she would accept Disorderly Conduct charges regarding it, but I feel we could come to an agreement regarding a modification to it."

It is amazing that comments here are largely ignoring the issue. It does not have anything to do with a comment about Trump, it has everything to do with the language. Does anybody seriously think if the comment expressed the same sentiment without the profanity, anybody would pay any attention to it. And by the way, that is why he used such large lettering.
Where, at any time, did I say I approved of it?
No, of course I do not approve of it.
Nor do I approve of the nasty obscene rap music that blasts from the windows of the cretins that choose to listen to that, nor do I approve of the trashy spectacle that some of the younger "pop" culture singers put out, nor do I approve of the zombied-out children that walk around watching dubious things on a iphone, or tweeting back and forth to pedophiles and sexual abusers.
What I do feel strongly about is hypocrites...on either side.
Would you approve a "F" Hillary display?
I would hope not, but you'd still realize that the 1st Amendment applies to ALL, not just to those that you or I approve or do not approve of.
The use of that word is offensive to me, but it is more offensive to me for the chief law enforcement officer of a county to "talk" to someone that has it displayed on their vehicle.
Remember the "Don't like my driving? Call 1-800-EAT SHIT!" and how it was "banned" arbitrarily by some police officers...some even forcing people to scrape it off their bumper?
What does that say about what we've become?
Yes...we have problems...but a police state is the last thing I want to solve it.
So prosecute him for Disorderly Conduct.
It has already been addressed at a much higher level of the justice system than a county prosecutor.
If the cretin took it as far as he could, I have no doubt that he would prevail.
I am rabidly patriotic.
Don't care if you believe that or not...but I assure you, if you wanted to display a "F" Hillary sticker, I'd defend your 1st Amendment right just as vociferously.
And like it or not, not every one is offended by the word, in and of itself and the offense springs from who is being to told to go "F" themselves.
I said in my previous post that it was a closed subject, but you chose to interpret my defense of the US Constitution as a defense of the word, the obscenity itself.
Nothing is further from the truth.
We defeat these type of cretins in the voting booth...as we did in November of 2016.
But they are not going to go away just because of that one election, but curtailing any right enumerated in the US Constitution in an attempt to fight them...means we have lost.
I believe in Free Speech, but most people USED TO HAVE ENOUGH RESPECT FOR THEIR FELLOW CITIZENS THAT THEY WOULD NOT POST VULGARITIES. Our culture has sunk so low......I blame BOTH Dems and Republicans. Mostly Dems as they are so vulgar in their marches, but Republicans too, for not standing up for themselves for the last couple of decades.
The same is true with teeth and corn on the cob.
I think the offense springs from not wanting certain members of society, such as children, being exposed to vulgarity. That seems to be a quaint notion lately.
Public profanity is not a high and noble use of our constitutional freedoms.
What are you talking about ‘disagreeing with his freedom of speech”? What the heck does that mean? Hell, I’d disagree with him if I ran into them. You have an absolute right to put a F**K Hillary sticker on your truck. Actions have consequences, I think I’d not want to be dumb enough to drive that truck into the parking lot of a lot of bars I know, but that is not the point- it’s not up to any governmental entity to say what you can or can’t express unless it’s defamation , incitement to riot or the like. That is a classic “I hate what you say but I’ll defend your right to say it”.
If you think I’d agree with the sentiment *OR* be stupid enough to put such a thing on my truck even if I did you’re a bigger idiot than the driver, which would be quite an accomplishment, since having that sticker on a truck in TEXAS seems pretty dumb to me.
My point is only that A) this will get shot down in the courts or B) if it doesn’t and somehow gets upheld, it’s a VERY bad precedent
“”I think the Sheriff better back up and take another look at the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.””
How about looking at the license plate for registered owner? Or are vehicles in TX not required to have license plates?
But can you yell 'fire' while shepherding a flock of sheep?
“”Have we just given up on the Public Profanity/Uttering Profanity charge? I remember seeing that often in the police docket when I was younger.””
Sure wish it was back. It sure hasn’t been any problem in the past 30-40 years. I have to put earplugs in when my husband watches some of the movies on TV.. Been a long, long time that movies were made without the profanity and vulgarity!
Let us know if you need help with bail.
“”The USSC has upheld in the past the right of local government to pass laws restricting public displays of disorderly conduct that include lewd and obscene messages. Some States/locales enforce; some don’t as in the cesspools of San Francisco and others””
Apparently the District of Columbia is one of those who
“don’t.” There was plenty of opportunity on Inauguration Day when those foul mouthed women were protesting and marching. THAT would have been a great time to round them all up. Could you imagine a local cop walking up to Ashley Judd or Madonna and slapping cuffs on them and hauling them away that day? How about sewer mouth Kathy Griffin? Why can’t we look forward to having all the trashy, filthy mouthed broads or males held accountable for their filthy language? Clean up the TV shows and movies.
This is why I am at my computer and not in front of a TV screen...
If the truck had said "Screw Trump" and "Screw those who voted for him", then there'd be no case. Public profanity is not free speech.
You’re obviously not a Constitutionalist.
I’d take this to SCOTUS. Texas law.is egregiously wrong.
By that definition calling a BLM protestor “stupid” is disorderly conduct.
Let the man be and /or let nature take its course. This is Texas after all.
The use of profane language depends on the jurisdiction cupcake.
I'm not a lawyer, this whole "incitement" thing kinda escapes me too.
The guy can be a jerk all he wants, it's Free Speech IMO so how can he be responsible for what someone else does IN RESPONSE (the "incitement") to his free speech?
Put it this way: I don't like what you say so I punch you in the mouth, knock out a few teeth and it's your fault for saying something that "caused" me to punch you in the mouth?
Ok then, there's a whole lotta stupid people I wanna off in this world just because, well they're stupid and they incited me!
If you had an 18 year old daughter and this guy walked up to her and said, “F**k you” without provocation completely out of the blue, what would your reaction be?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
In 1942, the U.S. Supreme Court established the doctrine by a 90 decision in Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire. It held that “insulting or ‘fighting words’, those that by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace” are among the “well-defined and narrowly limited classes of speech the prevention and punishment of [which]
have never been thought to raise any constitutional problem.”
Are you a Constitutionalist? How would you answer post 77?
“But can you yell ‘fire’ while shepherding a flock of sheep?”
Lord knows,it’s a mad,mad,mad world.
Back when G.W. Bush was POTUS, a guy drove around with two Stickers on his Honda that said F**K BUSH.
Typical uncivil Libtard who had no regard for a Soccer Mom that might pull up behind him with a bunch of Kids in the Car.
In my day, a Cop would have fed the jerk a Nightstick. Not for dissing the POTUS with his vulgarity, but for this crass public display.
Seeing this Jerk, it never crossed my mind to a=confront him or damage his Vehicle. It just disgusted me.
Fast forward to today. I drive a bright red 2015 Dodge Challenger that has “TRUMP 45” Vanity License Plates on it.
While it usually starts a pleasant conversation, I have been flipped off more than once and have had a confused Mexican fellow verbally accost me while I was buying Gas at my local Costco as I was pulling away. A Black Dude who was gassing up in front of me said, “he’s right you know” as I drove past.
I have had more than one person ask me if I have a Conceal Carry permit and many telling me how brave I am and wondering if my Car has been Keyed yet.
I don’t have a F**K anything on my Car, and I am probably in more jeopardy that that Moron in Texas with the vulgar display on his Truck.
