[2014] The Late Dick Clark's 'Flintstones House' [Tr]

The estate of the late, great Dick Clark has just price-chopped his beloved Malibu hideaway by $250,000, bringing the price down from $3.25 million to $2,995,000.

After two years on the Malibu housing market, this Flintstone-esque home atop a bluff got a price cut for the second time, as first reported by Curbed. It came down $250,000 in the summer of 2013, and without a buyer in sight, the price has been reduced by a quarter million dollars once again.

One of Malibu’s landmark properties, Clark’s stone home features unparalleled 360 degree views of the Pacific Ocean, Channel Islands, Boney Mountains, Serrano Valley, Los Angeles sunsets and sparkling city lights.

This unusually imaginative architectural creation is nestled atop a mountain on eye-popping 22.89 acres and features 1 bedroom and 2 bathrooms, as well as breathtaking ocean and mountain views. Truly exceptional and one-of-a-kind from within and without – the architecture of this home seamlessly marries form and function.

The interior space is extremely voluminous and features an expanse of glass to capture the views from every room of this home. Vaulted ceilings enhance the living room and dining room with its wood burning fireplace intimate seating areas. The master suite is at spacious and intimate. According to the listing agent, “this is art as architecture at it’s finest.”

Clark’s Malibu retreat offers seclusion, privacy and serenity, but it still just minutes from the beach. Before his death at age 82 in April 2012, Dick and his wife Kari used this home as a weekend getaway.

Lister: Cat.
Cat: Mm?
Lister: Did you ever see the Flintstones?
Cat: Of course.
Lister: Do you think Wilma’s sexy?
Cat: Wilma Flintstone?
Lister: Maybe we’ve been alone in deep space for too long but every time I see that show, her body drives me crazy. Is it just me?
Cat: I think in all probability, Wilma Flintstone is the most desirable woman who ever lived.
Lister: That’s good, I thought I was goin’ strange.
Cat: She’s incredible!
Lister: What do you think of Betty?
Cat: Betty Rubble? Well, I would go with Betty...but I’d be thinkin’ of Wilma.
Lister: This is stupid. Why are we talking about going to bed with Wilma Flintstone?
Cat: You’re right. We’re nuts. This is an insane conversation.
Lister: She’ll never leave Fred and we know it.

Flintstones visiting the 1964 World's Fair in Flushing Meadows, Queens (New York):

Got lost there when I was 7. Was scared to death and crying, until they started feeding me free ice cream and other stuff. First time I was ever lost. Currently live within a couple miles of it.

Very different, for sure. But $3M for 1 bedroom and 2 bathrooms? Yikes.

That is a picture from the first Flintstones movie, yes? Those rocks are Vasquez Rocks, northeast of Santa Clarita, California. When they weren’t filming the movie, the public was allowed to tour the area. Really fun for those of us who grew up with The Flintstones in prime time.

I'm sure it is. Got to know Rick Moranis pretty well back in the early mid '90s while at a previous job. He of course played Barney Rubble in the movie. When he was first offered the role he wasn't sure if he would take it. He's since practically vanished from the business. When I knew him he was living alone with his two young kids. He had just recently lost his wife to cancer.

We were there a few years ago. Interesting property. Our tour guide said it was plagued by leaks.

I have been in this House dozens of times over the years, I was there when he built it, It really is pretty cute and one of my favorite houses.

How does it get 360 degree views of the Pacific. Is it on an island?

Just caught what you meant. Yeah, probably an error, although I suppose it could be on an island. I doubt it though, else they would likely have mentioned it.

Given that it is in the Socialist Republic of California, you could probably never get the necessary permits to tear it down.

You don’t own property in California. You just pay the state massive taxes to be allowed to live there.

Here's a place I went to in 1983. Coober Pedy which means "White man lives in hole" in Aboriginal, an entire town in the South Australian Outback, built underground, in Opal mines.

That’s a lot cooler than I thought it would be - not my style, though.

Those bulging, wavy walls would make me sea-sick!

Surprisingly, it is the Frank Lloyd Wright house that leaks and Dick Clarks Flintstone house that doesn’t.

It’s not surprising at all.

Wright is said to have claimed if the roof doesn’t leak it isn’t daring enough.
