In an unprecedented move, Ridley Scott has re-cast Kevin Spacey in his Getty thriller All the Money in the World just weeks before the film's release.
Christopher Plummer will now play J. Paul Getty in the story about the infamous 1973 kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III.
The movie, which was pulled as the closing night screening of AFI Fest, is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 22 via Sony's Tristar. As of now, the release date remains unchanged despite the re-shoots.
Insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that Scott made the decision unilaterally and only notified Sony of his decision late Wednesday afternoon. Plummer was actually the first choice for the role, but top studio executives wanted a bigger name.
Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams star in the feature as J. Paul Getty's lawyer and daughter, but there is no word yet on wether or not they will be brought back for re-shoots.
As the sexual harassment and assault allegations continue to mount against Spacey, it would have been impossible to distance the movie's marketing campaign from the scandal engulfing the actor, even if he himself didn't do press.
All the Money in the World is the latest project to distance itself from Spacey. Netflix announced that the sixth season of House of Cards had suspended production and, on Friday, sources told THR that the production is actively reworking the final season of the drama, so that Spacey will be written out. Additionally, the streamer abandoned their plans for the Spacey-led Gore Vidal project.
He’s pretty old now, one of my favorites. I don’t know what all he starred in but I loved him in the Sound of Music and Hanover Street.
This means the studio/director/producers know EVEN BIGGER bombshells are coming. This will cost a fortune (great or small) in reshooting costs.
Just WOW!
Yeah, he was great in Sound of Music.
Agreed, it’s very likely that more allegations are coming. These reshoots will be so rushed with a December 22nd release date.
Jeffrey Tambor has now been accused. He denies it. Amazon investigating
Christopher Plummer was spectacular in The Exception. A really good movie.....see it if you have the chance.
I have to say that as much as I delight in the destruction of Hollywood’s shine, there is something very uncomfortable about these men being accused and deemed guilty by the accusation alone. It’s a dangerous road.
Shark tank guy also accused. He denies it
Where are the arrests?
Hard to believe this The Sound of Music star is still acting...at 87!!
Bully for him!
Which one?
Thanks, I’ll check to see if Netflix has it.
Herzog..not sure of spelling
dubious claim from ex
The accusers are now coming out of the woodwork-—— I’ll not pass judgment on any of the new ones.
.
I liked the guy in Sound of Music, but years later I heard him say he hated the movie and he viciously derided it.
I was totally shocked.
I think this was the guy on Dancing with the Stars. He recently married the ‘pro’ with whom he danced. Doesn’t seem the type, but hopefully the truth will out.
Thats the one..never can remember his exact name
Tambor accuser is transgender
The terry crews one is believable. He is pressing charges IIRC
Plummer is a better actor. Spacey is always Spacey.
