Innerviews: Gay teacher shares story of journey to truth
Charleston Gazette ^ | Nov. 6, 2017 | Sandy Wells Staff writer

He’s the son of a state trooper. He was reared in a fundamentalist church. He graduated from a fundamentalist school, Bob Jones University, and worked there for 14 years as business manager.

He married, had three children and landed back in West Virginia, where he taught art and English.

At Nitro High School, he made headlines when some parents wanted to ban Pat Conroy books from his classroom. He won that war.

Surely enough material for a column right there.

But there’s another whole side to Steve Shamblin’s story, an overriding thread that defines him.

He’s gay.

When he came out in 1999, Bob Jones University fired him and threatened to arrest him if he ever showed up on campus. His wife divorced him. The school alumni association dropped him. The church kicked him out.

Glad this can NEVER happen at the schools that I send MY kids to, as it only happens at schools in Left-Wing cities and Left-Wing states...never in the WONDERFUL public schools that my kids go to.

Thank goodness, too.

“In Parsons, in the first grade, I had a crush on a little boy across the street. I liked being around boys. I thought they were cute.”

This is a creepy statement by this guy. When I was in 1st grade, I knew nothing about sexuality nor did I find other children “cute”. I found some girls pretty, but not in a sexual way. This statement makes me assume he was molested.

“He married, had three children”

Oh, so all that was just a choice, but being “gay” isn’t?

O.K., let’s take it as he wants. Still, to be that dishonest for so long, with someone who obviously loved him very much, is more than mere cowardice in facing the choice he always wanted to make. It is so wrong on so many levels.

Shouldn’t there be a law?

A law that prevents a gay man from marrying a woman? Wouldn’t that be marrying under “false pretenses”? The whole marriage would be a sham, and the woman would have lost very valuable time after having been “prevented” from finding and marrying a man who would actually be a person of the “opposite sex” and might have actually married her for “love”. Same with women who marry while knowing that they “feel like a man”. Marriages that split up after many years, with revelations that they were gay or lesbian, are the products of the most vile lying there could be.

I’m sure of it. After all, what harm could a closeted (now un-closeted) homosexual have done to a woman in an ostensibly heterosexual relationship before “coming out”.

I suppose, with the un-closeted homosexual sex (most likely unprotected) the “inconsideration” of possibly acquiring and passing on things like various sexually transmitted diseases, never mind things like hepatitis and...AIDS, might be enough to cause the unsuspecting spouse some extreme pain and anguish at the betrayal.

So, yes. She was likely pretty angry, and they treat her as someone who is upset because she is petty and unforgiving. I would bet money on that.

She might be a very forgiving lady, but it doesn’t mean she won’t divorce him. She can still forgive him, but still divorce him too.

I am not a woman, but I can imagine that they would be more horrified by their spouses homosexuality behavior than a man would; precisely because of the rampant diseases the male homosexual community.

Surrendering yourself to your lust is not a path to truth, any more than drugs are a path to enlightenment.

Gays are creeps.

Agreed. I have a personal knowledge of the concept of forgiveness and the value of it. It is a very meaningful and liberating thing for the person doing the forgiving.

You can forgive someone without validating or accepting what they have done, and forgiving someone doesn’t mean they don’t have to pay a price for what they have done.

Yes...besides being furious at a duplicitous and deceptive “husband”, she could contract a fatal disease in the bargain.

People are flawed in all kinds of ways, but to endanger her life like that is worthy of furious anger.

Wow you like playing it close to edge don’t you. ;)

In my case it would like asking if I would be dead, or I would be deceased.

She understood that what I was getting at was how big a jerk McGreevey was. And he was in a position of public trust, besides.

Let’s understand what “coming out as gay” really means. It doesn’t just mean that you reveal to others that you experience same sex attraction. It means that you embrace it in a very activist manner. It means you are repudiating the very meaning of what being a man is. It means that you are having, or seeking, sex with other men.

Of course they do.

No, the horrifying thing would be knowing where he’s been putting certain parts of his body during the time he was having sex with me.

There would also be the betrayal of her not having a satisfying sex life because he was getting it somewhere else and not interested in her.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
