He’s the son of a state trooper. He was reared in a fundamentalist church. He graduated from a fundamentalist school, Bob Jones University, and worked there for 14 years as business manager.
He married, had three children and landed back in West Virginia, where he taught art and English.
At Nitro High School, he made headlines when some parents wanted to ban Pat Conroy books from his classroom. He won that war.
Surely enough material for a column right there.
But there’s another whole side to Steve Shamblin’s story, an overriding thread that defines him.
He’s gay.
When he came out in 1999, Bob Jones University fired him and threatened to arrest him if he ever showed up on campus. His wife divorced him. The school alumni association dropped him. The church kicked him out.

The dishonesty strikes me. He knew he was violating Bob Jones rules and did so blatantly...apparently for 14 years.
An honest person would have got a job out side Bob Jones.
The same with anything. If you want to take birth control pills, don’t work for Catholic Charities. If you want your employer to pay for your birth control pills, don’t work for Hobby Lobby. If you want Sunday off to observe the Lord’s day, don’t work for Walmart.
Why do people feel justified in making dishonest choices?

What’s the point of his story? He didn’t do anything great to make headlines. All he’s done is destroy his ex’s life along with the three children’s lives that he brought into the world through lies and deception when all he’s interested in is men’s butts.
The Charleston Gazette should be ashamed of themselves for this story. Guess they’ll be writing a warm fuzzy piece on the atheist church killer this week.
He’s a faggot. They are mentally ill and spend all their lives telling lies to themselves and others that their behavior is normal. If the parents had brains, they would have realized that their first grader had some psychological problems that needed fixing. Bob Jones’ Stones would fix the problem.

The article seem to try to portray her as a villain.
Maybe she's more than a little pi$$ed at him. He pretended to be with her for a dozen or more years. He really screwed up her life.
This reminds me of when NJ Governor McGreevey came out. I asked the wife, "Which would bother you more--if I was having a heterosexual affair, or a homosexual affair?" She replied, the homo affair, because it would mean the last so may years were a big lie. I bet the wife feels the same way.
And that’s not even getting into the risk he put her under, of getting HIV as a byproduct of his gay affairs.
Who cares? Why does “He’s gay” deserve a whole paragraph? I don’t really give a flying fucque (excuse my French.)
