There is an authentic historic record (in the Sumerian Tablets; the Ebla tablets; and Babylonian and Egyptian historical records and artifacts) of cyclical world wide flooding occurring at the time of passage of a stellar body several times the size of the Earth.

As the Egyptian priest told Solon, Egyptian history includes three world wide flood events; Native American history includes a fourth event, even earlier.

Sitchen's purported translations include the claim that the cycle of this body is 3600 years--I believe that translation is not accurate and it appears to me that there are competing translations that tend to a cycle longer than 4360 years but less than 4400 years.

The bible date for the flood of Noah is 2344 BC which is not only the bible date but fits the bible time line for other events.

Gilgamesh describes a similar flood with a different survivor and different location for the survivor's ark artifact. By calculating the date of Gilgamesh's mission and the age of the survivor at the time Gilgamesh met him, one can reasonably calculate the Gilgamesh flood at about 11000BC--which is the date for a world flood supported by the geological record. Floods of lesser impact appear as the Black Sea flood of about 6700 BC and the Native America record of about 15500.

That record implies a cyclical period of between 4360 years and 4400 years with alternate passages involving passage at a greater distance from Earth with less resulting in lesser geological impact. Thus the upcoming event would be expected not only not to involve a direct physical collision but generally less other adverse consequences.
