Coast Guard officials told the Associated Press on Monday that the two women had an emergency beacon but never turned it on because they did not fear for their lives. If they had, rescue would have been headed their way in a matter of minutes.
The women said Tuesday they did not use the beacon because they never felt they were in immediate danger, yet they have been quoted as saying they did not think they would survive another day, and that they were fearful during a dramatic tiger shark attack that lasted six hours. Furthermore, the pair said they had been flagging vessels and sending distress signals for at least 98 days.
They also defended their claims that their boat would not fit into harbors on some Hawaiian islands, places where much larger vessels come and go regularly.

I have been skeptical from the beginning. Their motor allegedly broke down but it’s a sailboat, for gosh sakes..
They claimed that their mast was broken but it’s in pretty good shape in the photos.
Whole thing has an odd odor..
I still ask, how many dogs did they start with! They ALL look well fed.
People don't look like that after 5 months at sea.
Of course they insist they are telling the truth, how else can the publicity whores capitalize on their pretend drama packed ordeal, where they looked better and better fed after 98 days adrift than a boatload of fisherman after the average day trip.
Well, 17-foot tiger sharks don't ram boats for six hours but 30-foot tiger sharks do. I mean, if there were any, that's what they'd do. The ones who come out of the Force 11 storms that nobody else saw, that is. Those sharks.
Ladies, sea stories are supposed to begin, "Now, this is no sh!t"...
At some point, Appel joined the Hawai’i Actors Network, noting on the group’s website that she has “been known to do almost any skydiving or motorcycle stunt — camera optional.” Through the group, she found work as an extra in the former TV series “Off the Map” and the former sitcom “Cougar Town,” appearing in that show in a pink bikini in the background of a season finale.
This raises a red flag.

These women are going to be temporarily famous.
Just not in the way they hoped.
Then they will be forgotten.
