Thor: Ragnarok review: Latest Thor is funniest Marvel yet
Sunday Express ^ | 10/29/2017 | Andy Lea

Posted on 10/29/2017 10:25:38 AM PDT by Simon Green

After the dreary Dark World, Marvel’s hairiest hero makes a thunderous comeback in the bright and very breezy Thor: Ragnarok.

ndie director Taika Waititi may have seemed an odd choice for the Asgardian’s third solo movie and the 17th instalment in Marvel’s “Cinematic Universe” but it turns out the man behind Kiwi comedy Hunt For The Wilderpeople (my favourite film of 2016), is the comic book giant’s most inspired signing.

If you’re making a film about a flaxen-haired, hammer-wielding god from outer space there’s no point keeping a straight face.

And Waititi’s love of the ridiculous makes this the funniest Marvel movie yet.

People have been calling for boycotts of Hollywood for decades. It's never made the slightest difference, and likely never will.

Thanks for the tip, new guy.

Yes, the fact that I'm new to a message board must mean that if I disagree with someone I should be dismissed out of hand....

Has Viggo EVER made it political?

No one said he couldn’t have his own opinion.....
....I draw the line if he gets ugly with our President or the folks who voted for Donald Trump

Has Viggo EVER made it political?

Yup.

https://hollowverse.com/viggo-mortensen/

In 2002, he appeared on Charlie Rose’s interview show wearing a t-shirt that read: “No more blood for oil.”7 And he was a frequent critic of the Bush administration for, among other things, the Iraq War. Comparing him to the main antagonist in his Lord of the Rings films, Mortensen said Bush will go down in history as the “Sauron of presidents".

...

He protested the Toronto International Film Festival for “spotlighting” Tel Aviv, saying that the organization was playing into the hands of the Israeli propaganda machine.

(End of excerpt)

Still doesn't keep me from enjoying his performance as Aragorn in LOTR.

Well, if you sign up for a political activism forum just so you can tell everyone that nothing they ever do will ever change anything, don’t expect anyone to take you seriously.

I've told "everyone" that? I made one post pointing out the futility of trying to boycott Hollywood into bankruptcy (an absurd idea on the face of it). I've also already made quite a few pro-gun rights posts, a subject near and dear to my heart, and one where activism is actually effective.

Activism that has a chance of achieving its goals is one thing. Quixotic tilting at windmills is another.

“Looking forward to this one. “

Why? Are you really a comic book reading nerd with that bad of taste??

***Quixotic tilting at windmills is another***

So in your mind, if some boycotting by conservatives does not end the conflict it was of no effect?

There are many actions and many battles in a war, so shit or get off the pot.

Oh please. That makes no sense.

It's a movie based upon a freakin comic book. Lighten up just a tad, eh?

But all sorts of better times to be a movie goer.

In fact, every other time, except this time, is better.

Good grief!

To start with, Hel is LOKI’s daughter, not his and Thor's sister. And she is not the goddess of death, she is the goddess of the dead, those who died un-heroic deaths, e.g. cowards, men who died of illness or old age, asf.

Ragnarok is the final show down between the gods of Asgard and Vanaheim against the giants of Jotungard, Nifelhiem, and Surt, allied with the monsters they have created.

Doesn't anyone in Hollywood ever read their source material?

Are you presuming that your proposed boycott will have any significant effect? If so, I disagree.

Sure they do.

(A $10,000 book in decent shape, more in nicer condition)

Because I anticipate being entertained by it, as I have been by other films in the MCU franchise.

As for my reading habits, I'm find of Tolkien, Heinlein, Pratchett, and Stephen Baxter, among others.

This is about comic book Thor and the Marvel comic universe concept of Odin, Thor etc. - they have little relationship with the variious Nordic myths (and there were more than a few different Nordic myths with quite a few differences)

So a woman Thor, a black Thor in a comic book movie is perfectly fine. Putting a woman Thor or black Thor in a movie about the Nordic gods if it is pure fiction is kinda ok. In a documentary, its not ok

In other words, it's a comic book, pure fiction not even attempting to be like that other work of fiction, the Norse gods

if you're grumbling about that, remember that there are lots of difference between Thor in the MCU and Thor in the Nordic myths Thor had red hair, not blonde

Folks, it’s a comic book, it doesn’t have to make sense and anything is possible.
