Has anyone noticed something a bit odd about the actresses accusing Harvey Weinstein?
The trash talk TV floodgates have burst wide open with women who now accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment. But has anyone noticed something very odd about this group. With a few rare (and aging or aged or very aged) A-listers, the accusers are all women who never succeeded in Hollywierd.
We are hearing nothing from the major movie actresses, and I think the reason is obvious. These women, now household names, did what aspiring actresses (and actors) have done for 90 years. When they were fighting for roles early in their careers, and all the others up for the roles were willing to go down for anyone in the casting system, they did the Horizontal Mambo too.
And of course, once they were into the system, they couldnt suddenly become reconstituted virgins and stop laying down on the job.
The reason they are not complaining now? They are still active and dont want to be thought of as simply very high paid, very beautiful, and somewhat talented women (and men) who sold their bodies for dollars and fame.
Or if they are War Criminal Jane Fonda, who claims she just learned about Weinstein a year ago, they also dont want the world to know these Womens Rights Champions were willing to stay silent, not tell the world what they did to get their movie roles, and sacrificed the next generations of their sisterhood for their own fame and fortune,
Theyre all hookers. Only the price is different.
I don't care if it's an R or D or whatever next to their name. Truth is Truth.
I doubt anyone here assumes that.
You and I are not on the same plane.
LOL, I am an electrical engineer, a senior engineer, will be retiring after 33 years at the end of next year.
99% of the career engineers that I work with are men, MORMON MEN, and as a group they are the most boring non-interesting people that I know. They also are mostly knuckle-draggers. Most of them have wives who have always been home-makers and they just can’t relate to a woman engineer. That’s probably more of the Mormon factor than the engineer mind factor.
I married a very interesting, funny, brilliant, well-read and well-rounded man—Mr. RooRoo! He is a FR lurker and we are political soulmates. I can’t imagine being married to an engineer like the ones that I work with.
LOL! True, true.
>>is beyond me.
Yes it is. Just because you can’t comprehend something doesn’t make it false.
I can ethically discuss any matter as long as I do not identify the client.
Not a very good try.
Yours is an excellent post which is why it is going to be ignored.
Also, women tend to blame themselves when being harassed. Why did I go to the office? Why did I wear perfume? Why did I do this, why did I do that, etc. Then after you’ve talked to your mom, your sister, your best friend, they all advise you to forget about it. And you do. It never really occurs to you that there is another woman after you who is going to get the same thing. At least, I never did. So I don’t understand all the blaming of the victim here. I really don’t.
Why? Serious question. I enjoy your insightful, well thought out posts, so why such a rigid, socially imposed standard?
Another problem I see is beyond the willingness of some performers - I am sure - to prostitute themselves for parts. It is NOT ok with me if they are willing.
Why?
Because this means that those not willing to prostitute themselves dont have a chance!
Would we put up with this in any other industry?
To get ahead or even work in coal, or forestry, or tech, or textiles, or as a cook... you have to prostitute yourself?
Absolutely intolerable. NO industry should be allowed to operate like that. It should be illegal AND prosecuted.
“The King Of Hollywood”
Well, he sits up there on his leatherette
Looks through pictures of the ones that he hasn’t had yet
When he thinks he wants a closer look,
he gets out his little black telephone book
(He’s calling, calling, calling
He’s calling, calling, calling
He’s calling ,calling, calling
He’s calling)
“Come sit down here beside me, honey.
Let’s have a little heart to heart.
Now look at me and tell me, darlin’,
how badly do you want this part?
Are you willing to sacrifice?
And are you willing to be real nice?
All your talent and my good taste,
I’d hate to see it go to waste.”
“We gon’ get you an apartment, honey.
We gon’ get you a car.
(spoken) Yeah, we’re gonna take care of you, darlin’.
We gon’ make you a movie star.
For years I’ve seen ‘em come and go.”
He says, “I’ve had ‘em all, ‘ya know.
I handled everything in my own way.
I made ‘em what they are today.”
After ‘while nothin’ was pretty.
After ‘while everything got lost.
Still, his Jacuzzi runneth over.
Still he just couldn’t get off.
He’s just another power junky.
Just another silk scarf monkey.
You’d know it if you saw his stuff.
The man just isn’t big enough.
Again, where were the parents? And how many of those parents actually pushed their kids into a career in Hollywood?
According to some people it was their own fault because being outside their house without wearing a garbage bag means that they are looking for male attention.
Of course if you don't wear nice clothes, make up and do up your hair then you are the reason American men lack testosterone or something.
There really is no way to win some times.
Was that song about Don Henley?
Back in 1980, Eagles drummer/singer Don Henley was arrested when police found a drugged, naked 16-year-old girl at his house in Hollywood. Henley got a $2,000 fine and two years probation for the offense.
Agreed. That is also why we should all simply stop supporting hollywood. Keep your money, give it a church, spend it on a play at a Catholic school, support your local pee-wee football team. Just do not give your money to the people in hollywood who hate you.
JoMa
It certainly got a few of the checkout line “People” magazine types excited.
The song was on the Eagle’s 1979 album “The Long Run”.
Well it’s probably not the first time Henley was involved in that kind of thing.
