Houston Texans owner Bob McNair apologized, but his regrettable comments wont be forgotten by his players that easily.
McNair reportedly said, We cant have the inmates running the prison during last weeks meetings between players and owners over the national anthem issue. McNair said he was using a figure of speech, but anyone should be able to understand why players wouldnt be so quick to forgive.
The Texans considered a walkout Friday, according to Sarah Barshop of ESPN, and star receiver DeAndre Hopkins did leave. Texans coach Bill OBrien said Hopkins took a personal day after he wasnt seen at practice. Yahoo Sports Shalise Manza Young reports that Hopkins left the building due to McNairs comments, according to a source. According to Manza Young, OBrien and general manager Rick Smith met with the players over McNairs comments.
Barshop also reported the Texans are planning something before Sundays game at Seattle but are unsure what that will be. Manza Young reported one possibility is some Texans could take the logo off their helmets.
Texans offensive tackle Duane Brown said he thought McNairs comments were disrespectful and it sickened him, according to ESPN and Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.
This is bigger than just the protests, Brown said about McNairs comments, according to Barshop. This is the view of player-owner relationship. This is how you view us. Youre an inmate, we cant let you guys out of line. We cant let you speak for yourself. We cant let you have your own beliefs. Thats what it feels like. Its a bad situation.
This is not a story that will go away simply because McNair put out a public apology. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green said on Instagram he thought McNairs comments were Donald Sterling-esque, referring to the disgraced former Los Angeles Clippers owner. McNairs comments drew an immediate and intense reaction, adding another layer to an already uncomfortable divide between players and owners.
Now McNair has angered at least a good number of his players, and they reportedly had to be convinced to not walk off the job Friday. His star receiver and one of the Texans most recognizable players did leave without practicing.
His apology was a step, but far from the final one if he wants to resolve a suddenly divisive situation.
Well, he could have said monkeys running the zoo.
it’s only a figure of speech that almost everyone uses now and then to make a point. How infantile.
Still, Mr. McNair is toast since once you apologize they just keep coming after you until you’re gone. Or bankrupt.
Funny how the snowflakes turn into hungry sharks once they get you to capitulate.
McNeil will end up going the way of Jimmy the Greek.
Her dad must be so proud...

It’s the employer/employee relationship.
Period.
If they don’t like it they can quit and start their own league.
.
Yeah, how fast can you reconstitute a team if, say, 50% walk out?
Asking for a friend.

LOL - given the number of felons in the National Felons League, it was a great and accurate phrase.
But, if there feeling are hurt, they really should walk-out and strike.
It is the feminist thing to do - and most blacks are raised without fathers, and have heavy feminine attitudes - hence the emotionalism, complaining, worried about what others think, focused on appearance, always talking about disrespect.
Exit stage left.
Insanity is rampant in modern American culture.
STFU and play football!
I mean how infantile are the players, not McNeil.
Because giving in to the demands of racist black football players worked so well for Mizzou.

Yeah, after Georgia whups us tomorrow, it won’t be his call.
Millionaire (temporarily) prison inmates.
Right.
I think inmates wish they were making 120 mil to throw a football around
Truth hurts...................
Truth hurts. Maybe the entire NFL will walk out?
I have no sympathy for a man who abuses his metaphors.
Let them walk. A week without a paycheck and we will will see them crawling back.
Get Hopkins a fainting couch....the delicate little thing.
All the more reason to flee the NFL cesspool. The dictatorship of the politically correct. Heard one virtue signalling presser call him a redneck.
Young black men: 3% of the population. 50% of the murder.
They actually believe we will approve or ignore their sick, violent criminal culture.
Or they could just change the culture, but we can’t have that.
