Thailand's colourful new King bought his mistress and his former air stewardess wife to his father's lavish cremation service. But King Maha Vajiralongkorn decided he wanted both of the special women in his life by his side as Bangkok paid tribute to King Bhuminbol, during a mass ceremony today.

My husband’s ex-girlfriend is one of my best friends. It was an innocent high school romance, and they were still good friends when I met her.

At least King Bhumibol had a living son to preside over his funerary rites (important for Hindu ritual). With seven children of his own, the new King also has ensured the continuation of the Royal Family.

I mourn the loss of King Bhumibol, the greatest king on Earth during his reign - a man of true nobility and a great asset to his people, who saved the Thai from the wave of brutal communist dictatorships that swept Southeast Asia.

There should be a special honorific for King Bhumibol - the Good, the Great, the Wise, the Noble, the Beloved - he was all those things.

King Bhumibol was already on the throne when I was stationed in Bangkok in 1962. He had a very long reign. I recall he was very popular with the Thais I worked with.
