FULL TITLE: 'Something was off': Survivor says US troops were stalled by a village elder before they were ambushed by 50 terrorists in Niger for hours following a near 24 hour patrol operation

The four American special forces killed fighting in Niger were ambushed by 50 ISIS terrorists after they were stalled by a village elder, a survivor of the attack has revealed.

The group of 12 American forces had accompanied 30 Nigerien forces to an area about 85 kilometers north of the capital Niamey on a routine reconnaissance mission on October 3, when a dramatic new order came through to kill or capture a top ISIS target, officials told ABC News.

They were never able to track down the target, but the convoy of 6-8 vehicles, which included three American, stopped at the remote village of Tongo Tongo after the long night of patrolling, at 11am the next day, a survivor of the attack said.

The meeting with the village, which is seen as supportive of ISIS, is a routine part of the Green Beret mission. But after the meeting, officials say village elders attempted to stall the troops from leaving.

The survivor, who has not been named, told ABC: 'Something was off'.

Is hunting ISIS what our personnel were there for? Or something else...

Did US troops die in Niger protecting French and Chinese Uranium?

I don’t even remember Obama sending these troops, then again I tried to pay as little attention to him as I could. He said he would bring our troops home, then he sent MORE to Iraq and Afganistan, that I do recall.

Maybe I should have payed more attention to him but to look at him just bringeth me of ill.

Whatever the reason, it’s not sufficient.

The US has no vital interests in North Africa. In fact, I cannot think of a vital US interest anywhere on the continent...with the possible exception of the Suez canal and Red Sea staying open.

The whole thing about changing the mission while it was underway smells of US commanders falling for bad intel and sending our forces right to the ambushers. Odds this will be covered up? 100%? The village elders might have contrived to stall (until the ISIS forces could respond to their message about US troops), but it sounds like double crossers at the intel level and an analytical deficit made this disaster possible.

The Army, Special Forces, Green Berets, whatever you want to call them have always done this. Hubby was a Green Beret and wound up in a book about a deathly firefight in Vietnam. His small unit was doing inoculations in a nearby village when they were called in.

Story said they had a meeting with the chief, who stalled them leaving
Meanwhile satellite showed ISIS with motorbikes stealthily surrounding the village

Too many screw ups to even cite

Another blunder under the watch of Mad Dog, who is mia

Yes, in Vietnam we tried to win "hearts and minds". And, basically we did, but we only lasted there less than 15 years. Then, we cut our losses and ran.

We are simply not going to defeat the savage ideology of militant Islam. Between terror tactics, and adherents to the ideology who pretend to be our friends, we will never defeat them ideologically.

We have to come up with a method of fighting them on the cheap. And a way to protect our precious fighters.
