FULL TITLE: 'Something was off': Survivor says US troops were stalled by a village elder before they were ambushed by 50 terrorists in Niger for hours following a near 24 hour patrol operation
The four American special forces killed fighting in Niger were ambushed by 50 ISIS terrorists after they were stalled by a village elder, a survivor of the attack has revealed.
The group of 12 American forces had accompanied 30 Nigerien forces to an area about 85 kilometers north of the capital Niamey on a routine reconnaissance mission on October 3, when a dramatic new order came through to kill or capture a top ISIS target, officials told ABC News.
They were never able to track down the target, but the convoy of 6-8 vehicles, which included three American, stopped at the remote village of Tongo Tongo after the long night of patrolling, at 11am the next day, a survivor of the attack said.
The meeting with the village, which is seen as supportive of ISIS, is a routine part of the Green Beret mission. But after the meeting, officials say village elders attempted to stall the troops from leaving.
The survivor, who has not been named, told ABC: 'Something was off'.

Its a waste of good men, SOF or not. And the process of figuring out involves spending SF lives. Now on the map that village is listed as “hostile”.
Its -insane- for the USA to get wrapped up in a war in Africa. Chances of quagmire are 99% and vital US interests are about 5%.
There is no “quagmire” with maybe 100 SOF troops on the ground living in a few safe houses.
That is the ENTIRE idea of using SOF in these situations.
Quagmires happen when you put a few conventional divisions with all their support on the ground.

From what I can tell they did not “Stop” in that village they got caught or stuck there. This stinks to high Heaven.

One report I read was that Obama would not send troops to Nigeria, and instead sent them to Niger, to help train their military to fight against Boko Haram (in Nigeria).
I think we should be considering desertion in the backs of our minds.
