Yes, in Vietnam we tried to win "hearts and minds". And, basically we did, but we only lasted there less than 15 years. Then, we cut our losses and ran.

We are simply not going to defeat the savage ideology of militant Islam. Between terror tactics, and adherents to the ideology who pretend to be our friends, we will never defeat them ideologically.

We have to come up with a method of fighting them on the cheap. And a way to protect our precious fighters.
