Child miners aged four living a hell on Earth so YOU can drive an electric car: Awful human cost in squalid Congo cobalt mine that Michael Gove didnt consider in his clean energy crusade
- Sky News investigated the Katanga mines and found Dorsen, 8, and Monica, 4
- The pair were working in the vast mines of the Democratic Republic of Congo
- They are two of the 40,000 children working daily in the mines, checking rocks for cobalt
Picking through a mountain of huge rocks with his tiny bare hands, the exhausted little boy makes a pitiful sight.
His name is Dorsen and he is one of an army of children, some just four years old, working in the vast polluted mines of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where toxic red dust burns their eyes, and they run the risk of skin disease and a deadly lung condition. Here, for a wage of just 8p a day, the children are made to check the rocks for the tell-tale chocolate-brown streaks of cobalt the prized ingredient essential for the batteries that power electric cars.
And its feared that thousands more children could be about to be dragged into this hellish daily existence after the historic pledge made by Britain to ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars from 2040 and switch to electric vehicles.
It heralds a future of clean energy, free from pollution but though there can be no doubting the good intentions behind Environment Secretary Michael Goves announcement last month such ideals mean nothing for the children condemned to a life of hellish misery in the race to achieve his target.

Cobalt is in a lot of stuff, batteries, ceramics, cement, rubber. They pick on electric cars for these stories but it’s really a small part of the cobalt market.

What they need is a little White Privilege to show them how machinery does the job better, faster, and easier.

It heralds a future of clean energy, free from pollution but
It does nothing of the sort. Electric cars need electricity.
“Green” sources of energy... are not.
Just more stupidity.

These aren’t miners. They are scavengers trying to eke out aliving.

...and generally look down on dark people...this wont bother them...and, all they have to do is say they dont believe it, and their circle of leftie university type friends get a free pass! And now, they have convinced their constituents in the NFL to kneel during the national anthem...resulting in a catastrophic growth of empty seats at their games. Will they ever learn?

This is gross but it is not the fault of the fricking batteries or the cars. It is evil people who put kids to work!

Yup. The scale of devices using rechargeable batteries is staggering; cars are but a small part.
The outrage is kinda like people who declared SUV drivers should be shot for wrecking the environment, then proceeded to drive around in their gas-powered cars using 80% of the same fuel.

Yes, BS meter hit for me as well. Cost of food alone would be more per pound of ore then running bulldozers per pound.
According to Wikipedia Glencore a Swiss company started the operation. Then sold it to a Chinese company. I do not know when conditions got this bad. This area looks to be closed for more up to date mining:
here is a video of what it did look like when the Chinese ran it:

I guess once more ‘white people’ are expected to do something about this outrage. We DID end slavery so I guess the ‘black community’ sees it as our problem. I’m betting even the person who wrote this piece is white.
Here’s my suggestion for the black community: PICK THIS UP AS A PROJECT FOR BLACK LIVES MATTER. Show the rest of us you care about something - anything - other than your selfish selves.
Surprise us... Protest for someone OTHER than yourselves...Protect these young black children WHO REALLY ARE VICTIMS.

If those kids were conceived here in the US they wouldn't have to live such a horrible existence. Odds are that Liberals would have aborted them before they saw the light of day.
Just cut them out of their mama's wombs like unwanted cysts.
Or they could be shot down in the street by black gangsters and few would notice.
But, if they survived all that, they could live their lives out like pet rats on one of the democrat plantations.
